Hi ciao-UK!
I'm from Germany and I thought about writing an opinion on the English speaking CIAO UK-site. My English is not the best, as you might get to know while reading my opinion about one of the latest albums by Roxette, "The Ballad Hits".
We have a very strong tracklist with four very new songs by the Swedish pop-duo Roxette, Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle.
When they released this album in Europe in 2002, bad news about Marie Fredriksson, the lead-singer, spread out around the world like a wild fire. Today the singer is still recovering and getting better and better.
Tracklist:
1.A Thing About You 2.It Must Have Been Love 3.Listen To Your Heart 4.Fading Like A Flower 5.Spending My Time 6.Queen of Rain 7.Almost Unreal 8.Crash! Boom! Bang! 9.Vulnerable 10.You Don't Understand Me 11.Wish I Could Fly 12.Anyone 13.Salvation 14.Milk And Toast And Honey 15.Breathe
you might know the huge world-wide-hit "It Must Have Been Love", the soundtrack of the movie "Pretty Woman", starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. This soundtrack was one of the most-played songs in Roxette's history. The single sold over 1 mio. copies.
The new song, "A Thing About you", was to released for Valentine's Day. The UK appreciate this album and pushed it up to # 11 of the UK album-charts. "A Thing About You" combines older Roxette-tunes with fresh instruments and the unspoiled skill of songwriting by Per Gessle. It's a fresh song with very high qualities and simply an easy-listening ballad for lonely afternoons.
"Breathe" is quite as good as "A Thing About You" and was to be released as second single out of this album. But, as I said earlier, Marie Fredriksson got ill and every single point of Roxette's plans had to be cancelled.
The other songs on the album are quite known songs, like "Crash! Boom! Bang!", the huge hit "Spending My Time" and of course "Listen To Your Heart". But you also have to listen to quite unknown songs like "Anyone", "Salvation" and the big Europe-hit "Milk & Toast & Honey". These ballads are all worth to listen to. Roxette have a typical style, which I like very much.
As I know, this album is available for you in the UK. I had and still have a lot of fun with this album and I hope, you'll have, too.
Please: I am not English! That's why my English might be bad :-) This was very difficult for me and I really hope for positive reactions...
Many many greets from Germany! Christo.
