...Well i was wondering across a music shop in the middle of nowhere and as usual i went down the world music aisle to see if they had any piping or folk cds and i came across this. Ever since i bought it that day it has never been out of my car cd player. It is a wonderful completion of world class musicians and pipers. The range of instruments from bagpipes to irish pipes to whistles is nice mix and is very easy on the ear. It really is a cd for those who like all kinds of Celtic music from pipe bands to low whistles. Some of the best tracks to be noted are: Quantum Leap - Well from one of the best modern bagpipe composers and players, Chris Armstrong really does get your heart leaping in this track. ...this is such a briliant cd and book guide. i would highly reccomend this to all indian musicians and people interested in studying indian classical music , specifically north indian aka hindustani music. it has a deep explanation of the basics of indian music so that you can truly appreciate the ragas (melodic structures) and talas (rhythmic cyles) and more features unique to indian music. the cds are also great as they are thoroughly explained in the book and you can even play the music on your western or indian instrument as the music is written in the book in western notation. the cds are not only great to listen to to learn the music side but are also great performances by some of the most distinguished artists in india.... ...The Oyster Band are one of Britain foremost folk rock band. They combine the energy of punk with an in depth knowledge of Britain's musical folk heritage, traditional and modern instrumentation, and an ear for an excellent tune. This collection draws thirty songs from their formation in the mid eighties up to the onset of the nineties. Their music reflects their resentment to the Thatcherite culture of the time, but folk music is very often about protest. They write their own music, draw on traditional tunes and cover contempory artists songs. Thus we get Nick Lowe's "Rose of England" , Billy Bragg's "Between the Wars" and New Orders "Love Vigilantes".
