Singing Barber?

Advantages: A good Tim Burton movie
Disadvantages: Too much singing

Tim Burton is a master of gothic movies. We have also seen he can add musical numbers to his movies in "nightmare before christmas". That being said I was still unsure if he could pull off a live action musical with his usual dark twist. Most know the story of Sweeny Todd or have itleast heard the name. In this version we find Sweeny arriving back in London after being flasly accused of a crime 15 years before. He was known as Ben Barker back then and he was a barber with great skill. He also had a beautiful wife and baby daughte. However the jealous judge Turpin (played by Alan Rickman) wants Barkers wife Lucy to himself and sends him to Australia. When Barker escapes and returns and meets with Mrs Lovett the pie maker (Helena Bohnam Carter - Tim Burtons partner).She tells Barker (now under his alias sweeny todd) that his wife ...

Welsh Male Voice Choirs.

Advantages: Sublime
Disadvantages: None

When I say that my grandmother's maiden name was Davies, and that she was the last person in the family who had any understanding of the Welsh language, you will probably understand why I love Welsh choral music so much. Well, apart from the fact that Wales is truly the land of song, with the best history of choral music in the entire world., that is! This CD (produced by EMI and Music for Pleasure) has a wide range of Welsh Male voice Choirs from all over Wales. The competition between the different choirs and indeed the different parts of Wales are fiercely competitive. But the strong, intense rivalry is always friendly. Well, MOST of the time, that is! The songs on this CD (I am ,of course, listening to it as I write this review!) are all perfectly sung and perfectly accompanied, as the producers have chosen the cream of Welsh ...

There was a barber and his wife.......

Advantages: Great performances, excellent adaptation
Disadvantages: Storyline weak in areas

Turpin who had to have Benjamin's wife Lucy for himself and punished him for a crime that never existed shipping him off to Australia indefinately. 15 years later is where the story begins with Todd AKA Benjamin Barker arriving back into London after being rescued by a Sailor Anthony from the cruel seas who allows him to travel with them. Barker seeks his revenge and after 15 years he has dreamed of returning to his wife and daughter and resuming the lifestyle he once had. Anthony knows nothing of Todd's dark secret and hopes that he will once again meet up with Todd once they go their separate ways in London to which Todd insists if he needs to find him then he will meet again. Todd decides to find his bearings once more in the familiar location of Fleet Street where he once had his barbers premises and this is where he meets Mrs ...
