Bargrooves - Manhattan - Various Artists

Advantages: Songs never grow old, surprisingly good versions by interesting artists
Disadvantages: You may not like all the artists on the album, but that shouldn't stop you

...Little can be added to the praise that has always been heaped on Carole King's album "Tapestry". But a group of artists have found a better way than words to show their admiration and love for this practically perfect collection of songs. With a plethora of artists from Celine Dion to Manhattan Transfer to Rod Stewart, this Tribute will appeal to practically everyone. Granted, not all the artists' will suit the taste of true lovers of the original clear clean voice that we know as Carole King, but there is a lot to recommend this album. My personal favorite track on this album is Manhattan Transfer's version of "Smackwater Jack". This ballad like song, with its slightly country overtones, seems to fit the voices of this group like a glove. ...A fantastic CD with lot's of different kinds of rock. The best bands of 2006 and 2007 put in one CD. Artists like Snow Patrol, Razorlight, The Fratellies, The Arctic Monkeys, Automatic, The Ordinary Boys, The Killers, Keane, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, The Kooks and the list goes on. Has two CD's and has 40 tracks, 20 on each CD. Has new up coming artist such as Wolfmother. has many artists winners from the Brits: The Killers who won best national CD and best national band, The Arctic Monkeys won best British CD and best British band. The Fratellis won an award too and many more Brit award winning artists. A fantastic purchase well worth its money. A great buy. I recommend definitely to people anywhere between 8 and 100 if they enjoy that kind of music. It even has some live performing artists such as 'The Arctic Monkeys' on tour... Read review

...this should be called: Female Of The Species - Various Female Artists. Way back in 98 when Phil Earle, head honcho of law and auder looked back at his catalog of releases he realised that none of them featured any women so he set off to put that right and hunted the rare and hard to find artists on this compilation. The result : a double cd of pure electronca made by women .encompassing an incredible scope of styles rarely found on a compilation like this. Released in 1999, this was a bit of a visionnary move by Phil Earle as since then, some of the artists featured here such as Bit Tonic, Kaffe Matthews, Laura B, and Apache 61 have stepped onto the world stage with their widly respected uncompromising and unique talent.
