Advantages: Loads of good poppy tunes on this one not so many ballads Disadvantages: People probably wont take this album seriously
...After the first album "You Me and Us" I was kind of hoping for something better than an album full of slushy ballads, my wish came true.
Martine has moved into many new directions on the amazing follow up "Wishing".
Martine gives pop a kick in the teeth with "I'm Over You" which gave the Spicer's "Holler" a run for it's money, "Tonight" a classic R'n'B track with a funky bass line having us dancing till dawn, Martine declares tonight "she has something to say" and yeah she sure has, she can really sing and her adoring public are going love the rest in store on this long player.
"Teardrops" do we need them? No way this offering seems like a song that could belong somewhere on a Celine album upbeat funky ballad appealing to yet another audience, "On The Radio" classic Donna Summer ditty has perfect single across it, Martine is back...

Advantages: The sound of a band on the edge of stardom Disadvantages: rough edges and a lack of singles
...is much quicker, the tone rockier and Stipe's lyrics, although still oblique, can be heard. Some of the themes that still follow the band today begin to blossom on this album as politics (name checks of Martin Luther King and a song about Guatemala) and the environment (Cuyahoga was written about a terrible pollution incident in a river in the US). Born out of the post punk era, the band originally known as Warsaw first became known on the Manchester scene in 1976.
They were signed to Tony Wilson's new record label Factory in 1977, and started to write their first album. The line up consisted of :
Ian Curtis : Vocals
Bernard Sumner : Guitar
Peter Hook : Bass
Stephen Morris : Drums
I first became aware of Joy Division after first becoming a fan of New Order, not knowing what to expect I was quite...
