Album Notes: This is 1 of 2 complete soundtracks issued for the film \"Batman.\" The other is a full-length instrumental score by Danny Elfman (Warner Bros. 25977). Includes 5 songs from the film and 4 that are not in the film.
Advantages: lots of good party songs Disadvantages: there aren't really any obvious ones
...this album, released in 1989 as OST to the hugely successful Batman movie was Princes biggest success since Purple Rain in 1984. The album was number for six weeks in the US and the lead single, Batdance, was number at the same time for three weeks.
alot of hardcore prince fans believe this album to be the beginning of prince going very commercial after his spiritual album of the year before, lovesexy. and many view it as the beginning of the end for 'classic' prince. however i totally and absolutely disagree with this opinion and was very surprised when i found out how little this album sold for its comparative brilliance.
for this album prince plays just about every single instrument, and as it shows on the batdance video, alot of the sounds are from a synth (and sound excellent and give the album a very individual sound, as prince...

Advantages: The most powerful Batman score ever composed; an Elfman classic all the way Disadvantages: So what if it isn't the most sophisticated score in the world?
...at the very end of that cue, ending the score proper in minor, not the reaffirming major.
Apart from the excellent use of music, Batman also stands out in being the first film to offer two soundtrack albums for sale. As it would turn out, Elfman's score would prove to be so popular that it more...

The opus! Review ofSign O' The Times (OriginalSoundtrack) - Princeby

Advantages: Uplifting; thoughful; style-spanning and funky; lyrics printed in full Disadvantages: The price of the album varies so shop around!
...Quite simply Prince's opus. A double album from the most talented musician of his generation was bound to be good but this exceeded even my expectations! Heavily jazz influenced whilst combining Prince's ability to produce quite avant garde soul and pop/rock numbers. This was ahead of its time.
I've always been a Prince fan since the days of the Batmansoundtrack when I first took notice and cast the Kylie Minogue albums aside - don't go there! Every Prince album is different from the last so you have to take each one as it comes. I stumbled across Sign O' The Times at a bootsale marked up for £8 and it was still shrinkwrapped. This was an absolute bargain as I've seen it priced up for as much as £19.99 in stores, though recently the price has fallen, like a lot of the Bealtes albums. Shop around, but I believe every penny you spend...
