=== Battle For The Sun - 5.33 ===
*** 3 Stars..

This song was infact the first offering we received from Placebo to a hint about what this album may have been like, and I have to say in the first few listening I was not best impressed with the song, mainly because it just went on forever, some songs should be lengthy.. This one I don’t think so.. It has some incredibly repetitive lyrics, and Molko’s voice gets ... more

Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun!

Advantages: The title track is a big hitter, great to see them still in action
Disadvantages: Very patchy quality, just not classic Placebo

Placebo are a defiantly odd band, and always have been, sitting somewhere between flamboyant glam and angry punk posturing. Surfing in on the tail end of Britpop, they've defied the music press by remaining a going concern for six albums and about fifteen years. Probably, if we're being completely honest, because they've never raised their heads far enough above the parapet of popular culture to burn out like Oasis does every couple of years. Boasting ...
...vocals of Brian 'sex pixie' Molko, the band is, in the best tradition of UK middleweight rock groups, huge in Europe, and famous for generating publicity through spats with other bands. One of the most notorious being their run-in with Limp Biskit during a South American tour. But anyway. _Battle For the Sun_. Sixth album, any good? Well, that depends on your point of view, really. It's an enjoyable enough piece of music, but does it match the heights ...

...any Placebo album. '''3. Battle for the Sun''' The title track for the album sees the tempo and pace of the album slow right down to start with however as the song progresses the guitar and drums start to build back up in pace and strength. Once again the song does have a much more overall heavier feel to it. I found this to one of the songs that I managed to get in to straight away and has very quickly become a firm favourite of mine. '''4. For ...
...the album that I heard as the single for it was released sometime before the actual albums release and it soon became the most listened to track on my iTunes. The song is a pure Placebo sounding track but has been enhanced by the addition of a much fuller sounding backing track to it. Despite the fact that this is the song that I have listened to most on the album it still sounds fresh each time and makes me want to jump about each and every time. ...

Battle For The Sun: Is it a battle to enjoy this album?

Advantages: Some good tracks, the mixing up of the style gives the album some originality
Disadvantages: Inconsistent quality, the album as a whole doesn't flow very well.

...which is good to see. Battle For The Sun is their sixth album, and is one that perhaps shows the most significant varying of their style to date. Certainly on reflection this was a bit of a risk, and if you want to know whether or not that risk has paid off, I suggest you read on. TRACKLIST 1. ...to come. 3. Battle For The Sun (2/5) The title track, but one that honestly got me very worried about this album, because after a promising opening couple of tracks this one goes down hill. The thing is, if you take the individual components of this song, they are fine by themselves. The problem is that they do not come together at all. The lyrics are repetitive, and a lot of the song is just a chore to listen to. Listening is something instinctive ...

...a bad way. == Battle for the Sun == So I haven't heard Battle for the Sun yet. I have low hopes considering that as far as I'm concerned, Placebo's best days are behind them, they had a great run in a time that was suited to them... I'm not sure they really _fit_ in the 'alternative' charts at the moment. Still, I hear they have brought in some trumpets.... and despite my not hearing anything about it until this moment, it has reached no. 8 in the ...

fuse together to make a very odd mix of sounds. Front man Brian Molko is a bizarre mix of punk and glam and even though the two genres sound totally unrelated, somehow Molko has made it work since 1996, resulting in some pretty rebellious but also heartfelt yet cryptic lyrics. Bassist Stefan Olsdal spent his youth listening the likes of pop power houses Abba and the Eurhythmics, so when you just consider Molko and Olsdal?s tastes, there is already quite a crazy blend there without mentioning Hewitt?s love of hip hop and hard rock, which greatly influenced his drumming style and thus reinforced Molko?s tortured vocals perfectly. But after Hewitt?s departure, Placebo fans worldwide were informed that another drummer, also called Steve, had entered the mix and that the newly formed trio were working on their next album, ?Battle For The Sun ...

The 'Gravity' Of The Situation Is...

Advantages: There are a couple of good songs and promise for others...
Disadvantages: Just too many bland tracks to be a good album; repetitive and altogether dull

Although many bands will tell you that their second album was the most difficult to make, particularly if it?s an offering following commercial success, I often view a bands fifth or sixth album to be among their most significant. It?s not only down to the fact that I like the numbers five and six but it seems to be a turning point for many bands ? The Beatles went on to release another cracking movie soundtrack for ?Help!? with album number five whilst Placebo, many decades later, completely bombed with their sixth studio release, ?Battle For The Sun? and sadly it?s a trap Our Lady Peace fell into back in the June of 2002. By the time you get to a fifth album, bands perhaps see it as a time for extreme change; the majority of the bands I like fit the tag of ?alternative? so with each record, you?d expect a group to grow out of their ...
