Advantages: A wonderful pastoral sound Disadvantages: Nothing
...Trespass was the second Genesis album. The group had formed at Charterhouse and were discovered by Jonathan King, producing one album "Genesis to Revelation" for Decca, which deservedly bombed. You can still buy this as a cheapie , but it is best avoided and only has curiosity value, so back to the album in question.
This was still a formative Genesis, but the line was to change after this album. The line for this album was:
Peter Gabriel - lead voice, flute, accordion, tambourine, bass drum
AnthonyPhillips - acoustic 12-string, lead electric, dulcimer, voices
Anthony Banks - organ, piano, mellotron, guitar, voices
Michael Rutherford - acoustic 12-string, electric bass, nylon, cello, voices
John Mayhew - drums, percussion, voices
Mayhew, was to be replaced by Phil Collins , but I don't know what he did after this album. Phillips...

Advantages: A peerless demonstration of the stand-up's art Disadvantages: If you don't like comedy albums, you don't like comedy albums...
...(Bernie the Bolt!), Celebrity Squares (Noughts And Crosses! With the Z-List!), Family Fortunes ('Name a bird with a long neck - Naomi Campbell!' 'Name a dangerous race - the Arabs!')...all were fronted with Bob's mile-wide nailed-on grin and spiced with expertly-delivered extracts from his nigglingly voluminous jokebooks.
You may gather from this that I wasn't really a fan. But even I can grudgingly respect the aforementioned professionalism inherent in so many of that school of entertainers. And one thing Monkhouse certainly knew about was comedy. Which I suspect is why, when he had a chatshow in the 1980s, he gave Emo Philips his British television debut. Coming at a time when the opposing factions of Alternative Comedy and Old Style Racism And Sexism were squaring up, the bizarre creature that Monkhouse introduced was something else...
