Full review
This CD is the soundtrack to the awesome 1991 film 'Beaches', which starred Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey. It is a story about two of the bestest friends, they're friends for life, and face many trials and difficulties during their lives - which they help each other with. They argue too, of course.

The music comprises of some original material written for the film, such as Oh Industry and The Glory Of Love, and some old favourites - like Wind Beneath My Wings and Bette's cover of Under The Boardwalk.

HIGHLIGHTS: Wind Beneath My Wings, The Glory Of Love, I Think It's Gonna Rain Today

LOWLIGHTS: I Know You By Heart

Track 1 - Under The Boardwalk - Bette's cover of Under The Boardwalk is awesome. It's slower, more synthy, and more Midlery. It shows off her voice very well. I like it! And one of the bits I love, it begins with a little trumpet fanfare which is awesome.

Track 2 - Wind Beneath My Wings - just about everybody knows this song! And most people love it. It's one of the songs most used for Weddings, And Funerals too!
Probably Bette's most popular song.
The only qualm I have is that this is supposed to be the Soundtrack of the film - but they don't use the same version as they do in the film! They use the original which is excellent and probably better, but for a Bette fan like myself, it would be cool to have the version from the film.
But yes - an excellent song. A karaoke favourite!

Track 3 - I've Still Got My Health
This Song is used in a part of the film where Bette, or CC Bloom, is singing in a jazz bar in the '60s.
It's lovely and jazzy and light, it's ok! No soaring melodies or drama here.

Track 4 - I Think It's Gonna Rain Today
Awesome song - great if you fancy a cry.

Track 5 - Otto Titsling
Funny song about the invention of the Titsling - or the Brassiere (if that's how you spell it, hmmm) - it's in the film when she's so driven wanting to be a star she'll do anything. And Hilary her best friend comes and sees it - and doesn't approve. Prude! But anyway - amusing.

Track 6 - I know you by heart - w/ David Pack
I don't really like it. Bit crap. and his voice is horrid! ugh. It's ok i suppose.

Track 7 - The Glory Of Love
ONE OF MY FAVOURITEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER EVER EVER! i adore it. it has varous incarnations in the film - as a child CC sings a cabaret-ish version, it is used as an orchestral theme a lot, and at the end after the bad thing happens (won't spoil it), she sings a wonderful version and it makes me cry every time... im a bit teary now thinking about it! anyway it's a gorgeous song, jazzy, it's just lovely and i love it :)

Track 8 - Baby Mine
Also lovely. Very cheesy but good :)

Track 9 - Oh Industry
LUVVIT - is used in a part of the film where CC gets her first lead in a weird musical with masks.... anyway it's good - lots of 80s90s synthy noises. Bette's voice is amazing as always! Sounds kinda egyptian - anyway, 'sgood.

Track 10 - The Friendship Theme
Little snippit taken from the film which is actually barely memorable and a bit rubbish!

Anyway so yes - if you're into your led zeppelin and your darkness and your franz ferdinand and stuff like that only, well, this probably isn't for you.
But if something a bit less rocky and a bit more jazzy and a bit more feminine is your thing, you'll love this CD, and you will love, the awesome, the divine, Miss Bette Midler.

"Fly..... Fly.... So high against the sky... so high I almost touch the sky...
Thank you, Thank you, Thank god for you,
The Wind Beneath My Wings"

Fly out to the shops and by it! little joke for ya there.
