loaded with ill-conceived covers and some of John Lennon's most self-loathing lyrics. On the other hand, the people doing the banging-out were the Beatles, whose instincts for what worked musically were so strong that they could basically do no wrong--any record that has "Baby's in Black", "I Don't Want to Spoil the Party" and the delectable "Eight Days a Week" on it is only "minor" in the most relative sense. And, though their voices had been frazzled a bit by constant touring, they revved them up for some joyous shouting, and indulged their fondness for American country in subtle, playful ways. --Douglas Wolk

fourth album was recorded in and around a busy North American and British tour schedule. BEATLES FOR SALE also marked their last full-length release loaded with cover songs, as the Fab Four moved towards writing more of their own material. Interspersed between Beatles classics such as "Eight Days a Week" and the Dylan-inspired "I'm a Loser" are faithful renditions of songs by Buddy Holly and Carl Perkins (featuring the only lead vocals by Ringo Starr and George Harrison on this album). The frenetic, inspired take on Chuck Berry's "Rock And Roll Music" is only superseded by a tremendous medley of "Kansas City" and "Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey", that finds Paul McCartney's exuberant vocals comparing admirably to his hero Little Richard, providing a vibrant centrepiece on BEATLES FOR SALE.
Advantages: some strong tracks, sound is maturing Disadvantages: some weak songs, a return to cover songs

Inside right there's a photo-montage with a lot of photos (maybe the inspiration behind the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band cover). There are also sleeves notes written by Dereck Taylor(Beatles press officer).

Advantages: Shows the band's early musical influences Disadvantages: Not given a lot of critical acclaim at the time
Beatles For Sale, while not a particularly critically acclaimed album, is very important nonetheless. Six of the fourteen songs on the album are covers--the Beatles admired the work of the artists that made it possible for there to be Beatles, and by covering their work, that importance was acknowledged. This album completes the evolution of the songwriting team of Lennon and McCartney--they came of age as tunesmiths, and never found it necessary ... ...Beatles For Sale were written by the Beatles.
The songs, and a brief synopsis of each, follows:
1. No Reply--This tune begins with a vocal introduction by John Lennon, and he has been jilted by his lover. The bridge lectures her, saying she should realize that he "love(s) (her) more than any other guy". Jealousy rears its ugly head, a common theme in Lennon's songs. Although this tune features acoustic guitars, they drive it pretty good.
2. I'm ...

...during this and 1964 The Beatles were exhausted and it showed. Not where the album was concerned though: they managed to produce another album of a high quality. This was the first album to feature songs with more of a country feel, which was Ringo’s influence on the band. A more prominent influence throughout the rest of the albums was that of Bob Dylan. His introduction of dope to the Beatles apparently let them write more freely, and it is this ... ...album years later. If Beatles fans were asked to pick the weakest song recorded, then this may well be it: McCartney and Harrison ambled along to Lennon’s impassioned lead on this and it was not up-to the standard of their earlier renditions of this song live. One of the most memorable songs on the album was “Eight Days a Week” which was another first in the music industry, because just after The Beatles discovered the art of fading music out, they ...

Beatles for Sale
The follow up album to A hard days night, this album also reached number one on the UK chart. Released in December 1964, the Beatles fan train was just gathering momentum. It contains some of the Beatles older stuff, which is equally as good , if not better than their later material. Track Listing: No Reply, I'm A Loser, Baby's in black, Rock and roll music, I'll follow the sun, Mr. Moonlight, Medley: Kansas City - hey hey hey hey, ...

Early Beatle's Music:
When the Beatle's began their albums were raw with pop classics, mostly by timeless Lennon/McCartney combinations and cover versions of old rock 'n' roll numbers. By that time the bands format was formally set, John did rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Paul did bass and shared lead vocals with John, George did lead guitar and sang occasionally, and Ringo played drums. However, when George began ...
