I bought this CD after hearing one of the songs - 'The Kill' - in someone else's car. I thought the song was beautiful, so I bought the album.
However, I was actually quite disappointed with the rest of it. There are undeniably some other great songs like 'The Kill', such as 'Attack' and 'From Yesterday', but the others I find mostly disappointing. This could be because I I find all the aforementioned tracks so amazing though, perhaps they just do not reach the standard they have set themselves. In those songs I feel as though they have poured their souls into the words and the music - which is exactly what I like to hear, so the other songs seem a bit of a half effort in comparison.
The songs overall have 'emo' tendencies, as they are a mix between a cry for help and thinking everything's a lost cause. I would say they truly believe this too, as I have never heard such passion as in The Kill. However, they are nothing like the mainstream emo band Fall Out Boy, this is a completely different wavelength. A lot less smart alec lyrics, a lot more raw emotion.
If I had the choice to buy the album again, I would, just to hear those few songs I think are so awesome.
five different countries over a period of three years, in order to accommodate vocalist/guitarist Jared Leto's acting career. Yet the album is anything but disjointed. On...
