This Cd was recorded in 1997 not really that long ago it was the year that Hale Bop the comet was visible in Spain where Capercaile were resting after their Spanish tour. The sighting of Hale Bop influenced one of the tracks.

This Cd was recorded in 1997 not really that long ago it was the year that Hale Bop the comet was visible in Spain where Capercaile were resting after their Spanish tour. The sighting of Hale Bop influenced one of the tracks. Capercaile are vocals Karen Matheson, Charlie McKerron on fiddle, the band is Manus Lunny on bouzouki, acoustic guitar and backing vocals; John Saich on bass, acoustic guitar and backing vocals; Donald Shaw on keyboards and accordion; Wilf Taylor on drums; and Chimp on percussion and berenbow.
The first track M’IONAM is very restful with Karen’s beautiful voice, telling the story of a mother looking forward to her baby boy growing up and sailing to foreign countries bringing her exotic gifts, and her wish that tomorrow her hens will lay an egg for her son.
The next track INEXILE about a love sick young woman separated from her love this is a slow track with a jaunty fiddle solo in it. This song features the background vocals of the Guinean female duo Sibeba, since renamed Hijas del Sol.
THE TREE the next track feels very Scottish even though it has an exotic beat. The fiddle is fast and powerful.
AM MUIR GORM the next track, I can not understand the words on this track or at least only a few, I think it is sung in mouth music, fast Gaelic
BEAUTIFUL WASTELAND the title tracks slightly faster my head and toes are tapping.
CO NI MIRE RIUM, ANOTHER TRACK where I cannot understand the vocals, this is a clapping song called in English who will flirt with me. There are lots of backing vocals on this song.
SHELTER another song sung beautifully by Karen with a beat of some drums running through it
HEBRIDEAN HALE BOP This track influenced by the sighting of Hale bop, is a faster song in Gaelic again this has a traditional feel to it.
KEPPLEHALL the music and pace slows down a little now a gentle music making my mind drift calming and restful an instrumental no vocals
THIOCFADH LEAT FANACHT. This is a song encouraging young people to travel the world but to come back to their homeland again sung in Gaelic. A traditional song with traditional music. Lovely and lilting wistful sounds.
FINLAYS. A jolly little tune again I could not understand the words, this track had more of a beat to it. Not one of my favourite tracks.
SARDINIA. The last track of the Album, This tracks better one to listen to not a fast dancing beat, just one that helps your mind wander and its peaceful only a few lyrics on this track. Overall I like this cd a lot it did help soothe me a little. Music is great for mood enhancing and calming the spirits Thanks for reading. Mary.
