Advantages: Great fireworks! Disadvantages: Have to get a spot early!
Standing on a boat in the centre of Sydney harbour the expectation starts to build, new friends stand shoulder to shoulder, lovers hugging and holding hands and children bursting with the anticipation of it all.
10,8,9 I squeeze the hand of my new travel buddy next to me, 7,6,5, this is it my dream coming true, 4,3,2, here it comes 1 ' Happy NewYear' !! The sound of fireworks fills my ears and the sky is crammed with the bright colours of fireworks exploding left, right and centre. Screams of delight and smiling faces surround me as I am filled with emotion.
This time last year I was at a house party in London watching the Sydney fireworks on TV and a year on there I was standing in the middle of it all, maybe some NewYears revolutions can happen.
It has been my dream for a few years now to experience Sydney ...
Advantages: Brilliant. Fun. Evocative. A celebration of age and life. Disadvantages: None. That is, unless you don't appreciate brilliant acoustic folk music. Rap fans forget it...
It's a rare thing when you can go home again... The Seekers are a too often underrecognised force in pop music. Supremely talented and driven by the transcendent voice of Judith Durham, they miraculously reunite after 25 years and, get this, are better than ever. Age and perspective brings a subtle maturity and irony to their voices and presentation. Each is gifted in his/her own right and together they create a unique and yes, magical chemistry that defies time and trends. The songs are performed with a passionate affection and respect for the original arrangements and memories. As a special treat, check out their studio album from the late 90s, "Future Road." Sublime in my humble opinion. A welcome relief of harmony, melody and acoustic layers from the synthesized, shallow garbage that pervades pop culture today. ...
Advantages: Germany's capital and most interesting city Disadvantages: a bit too large, distances too long
'the front city', the 'island in the Red Sea', the 'stronghold against communism'. I saw the wall and am glad I did, although I knew it from pictures, I didn't imagine how gruesome it was. My fourth Berlin is the capital of the reunited Germany; after the fall of the wall in 1989 I've visited the city several times, there is no other capital in Europe for which you need a new guide every time you go because so much changes, so many buildings are renovated or rebuilt from scratch or are completely new.
Berlin has not one centre but several, this has nothing to do with the partition, it has always been like that, the different boroughs have quite independent sub-centres, too, a tourist should know this in order not to be disappointed. I think it's a good idea if I take you through the city from West to East, starting at Bahnhof (train ...
