Advantages: Eno is ever creative Disadvantages: but not as potent as usual.
...as someone who’d taken years to perfect; but with such seeming effortlessness. It is perhaps the perfect way to end.
Have I been hard on Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy). It’s difficult to say, it took me a long time to be able to get into it, at first I was really rather disappointed, having bought it afterWarmJets, AnotherGreenWorld and Before and AfterScience, still with repeated listening it has grown on me though perhaps not as much as I would like. But it is definitely a listen worthy of your time for those moments of brilliance that Eno ever coaxes out of the music. So anyone interested in Eno and his contemporaries should certainly go out and listen. For those interested in Eno but who have never ventured AnotherGreenWorld or WarmJets would be a better place to start, I would have to admit.

Advantages: Wonderfully inventive, often moving music from the master Disadvantages: A few wrong moments
...I find it strange no one has ever written about Before and AfterScience previously. When shopping for CDs in Paris I remember noticing that they had Before and AfterScience stickered as being one of the 100 most important albums of all time and rightly so. This is Eno’s final album (barring Wrong Way Up perhaps) before he eschewed conventional song writing for purely ambient and more experimental music, though like AnotherGreenWorld, Before and AfterScience (for now on to be referred to as: BAS) it is a mixture of song writing and his more experimental ambient.

Advantages: Sombre Reptiles and Golden Hours Disadvantages: Perhaps an acquired, perhaps inspired, taste
...; that is AnotherGreenWorld.
Even by Eno’s own standards the high points on AnotherGreenWorld are for me higher than those on any of his other albums. The only single track that can match anything on AnotherGreenWorld is Baby’s on Fire from Here Come the WarmJets. Otherwise there are some truly stunning pieces of music that to me seem to symbolise a crystallisation of Eno’s goals, themes and ideas. There is an occasional clarity that nothing else he has ever done can quite touch. In one sense I prefer Here Comes the WarmJets because it so easily listened to; AnotherGreenWorld takes another kind of listening to; you have to hand yourself over to it and constantly be on the look out for every subtlety, every delicate moment that exists. Admittedly I do have to be in the right mood for AnotherGreenWorld because it is quite a contemplative...
