Begin The Beguine (Original Recordings 1936-1939) - Artie Shaw

Advantages: Fantastic range of great tunes and songs

.... I know that Lester young was a great musician, and hat his band was made up of first-rate technically brilliant jazz musicians, but somehow, compared to Jack Teagarden and the early Louis Armstrong stuff on this CD, Lester Young just doesn't do it for me. If their music tells me anything, it tells me: "Hey. We are so hip and cool, that we know it!" Then we change pace and step over to Artie Shaw and his Orchestra. Aha! Although these guys are just as sophisticated as Lester Young, somehow they're much more up-tempo and vibrant playing does do it for me. The CD has Artie Shaw's Begin the Beguine, Donkey Serenade (cool name, huh?) and Let's Walk. If there's a difference is it because Artie Shaw and his Orchestra played for their audience, whilst Lester Young and his band played for themselves? The sleeve notes for the CD are not the best... ...in tokyo dvd. You Could Be Mine, heavy rock tune used in the Terminator 2 film. Chunky guitar riffs and solos, great for headbanging. Yesterdays, graet hard rock song about what yesterday has for you nothing yep I will aggree to that. THE SPAGHETTI INCIDENT 1993 Aint It Fun, origainally done by the Munroes. A good punk rock song. Since I Dont Have You, the beter choice of the two punk rock songs writen by James Beaumont and The Skyliners INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNTRACK 1994 Sympathy For The Devil, Rolling Stones classic hard rock song which Guns 'N' Roses recorded for this great film. Although they show The Live Era Album 1987-1993 released 1999 there aint no live tracks on this album. which is a bit of a shame. Advantages: Cheap, great value, some superb tracks
Disadvantages: some duff tracks, poor insert

...but still of higher quality than a lot of live recordings I have heard from other artists. Track 1, this is the classic 'Come fly with me' sung as only Sinatra can sing it. Track 2, 'Begin the beguine' great song but not the best version by a mile. Track 3, 'Dancing in the dark' er a miss I'm afraid Track 4, 'You make me feel so young' I sing along to this one everytime I hear it. Track 5, 'Love me or leave me' Bye Bye Frank Track 6, 'On the sunny side of the street' Bright and breezy easy listening type song. Track 7, 'Blue Skies' Now we are getting in the swing of things Track 8, 'All the way' Another classic from the man Track 9, 'Ghost of a chance' not with this one Frank Track 10, 'Night and day' Passable version Track 11, 'Somebody loves me' OK but not the best track Track 12, 'Just one of those things' back to the real...
