Beginning Stages Of..., The - Polyphonic Spree (The)

...to the CD it feels like they are stringing out my emotions and my sole then tuning me so that every part of my being is happy. This CD has pride of place within my collection and has for the past 9 months, for me the CD is uplifting, cheerful and soothing, it has qualities of times ‘Hippy’ yet something modern and safe, I feel that they are an expressive, if weird band, who can tap into a sound that will possibly become massive! I was both entertained and enthralled at Glastonbury and have since become faithful to the Polyphonic Spree. Disadvantages: It's a poor album. How's that for a disadvantage?

...Before you listen to The Polyphonic Spree, all the signs have been universally bad. They call themselves a "choral symphonic rock" band who are run by a "musical director" called Tim, and they wear bright robes of different colours as they travel round the World - presumably in a series of VW Beetles painted all the colours of the rainbow - spreading their good word about how nice the sun is. Looking at the tracklisting for their debut album "The Beginning Stages Of The Polyphonic Spree" (a name which is of course another pre-emptive strike against them), the word 'day' appears seven times out of ten, and 'sun' appears on two. The only songs to avoid either word are "Soldier Girl", which could be promising, and "Lala", which… is not such a promising title. So before you listen to the album, there are already several ominous overtones... Read review

...on from the first 2 albums, the tracks are numbered Section 21 to 33; Section 21 (Together We're Heavy) Section 22 (Running Away) Section 23 (Get Up And Go) Section 24 (The Fragile Army) Section 25 (Younger Yesterday) Section 26 (We Crawl) Section 27 (Mental Cabaret) Section 28 (Guaranteed Nightlite) Section 29 (Light To Follow) Section 30 (Watch Us Explode (Justify)) Section 31 (Overblow Your Nest) Section 32 (The Championship) These songs may not be as immediately accesible as on the first album, The Beginning Stages Of..., but now, after a couple of listens, I am really starting to enjoy this. If you concentrate of the music, and leave the lyrics, the end product is much more rewarding. The stand out tracks for me are 'Running Away', a trademark Spree style track which you can help but start moving along with... Read review
