Bracegirdle has been a bit of a busy chap. After tastefully reupholstered the Clannad classic "Theme From Harry's Game" into a melodic-trance masterpiece, he then confounded all expectations by taking rock atheist Bryan Adams to the top of the charts with the friskily euphoric "Don't Give Up". These pop-dance lovelies only paint half the picture though. In between the strident hooks and glacial breakdowns which characterise his Ibizan leanings, Bracegirdle also demonstrates a not-to-be-wasted classical training. The rest of the album pitches moist, velvety pads against ear-tickling flute and a smooth, cocooning ambience. The wistful "Autumn Tactics" glides along like a loved-up Beth Orton--distant guitars chiming over whispered breakbeats, while "Low Sun" taking the baton from A Man Called Adam is like a pure Balearic dawn. All in all, prerequisite summer listening. --Paul Tierney

I realised that it almost perfectly summed up my favourite listening, the CD as a whole bringing in elements of classical, ambient, electronic and trance music. It is predominantly instrumental music, with occasional vocals from Bryan Adams on "Don't Give Up" and Maire Brennan on the two "Saltwater" mixes. The promotional video for Ireland is one of the tracks on the DVD.
Personal favourite tracks: "Overture" and "Saltwater (Thrillseekers' Remix)".
With many CDs clocking in at only 45 minutes, it is nice to find 66 minutes of sublime music on this one. In addition to that, the DVD is provided as a bonus. No extra audio tracks, but some nice, imaginative video to look at, and in the case of the video for Tourism Ireland - beautiful. Very good value too then!
Strongly recommended if this is your sort of music, or if you fancy trying something new. It is also available from iTunes so you can listen to samples there before you buy.
Advantages: Easy listening, dance Disadvantages: Not enough music
I've always loved Saltwater and bought this CD & DVD to listen to Chicane's other work and was totally impressed with all of it. Whilst tracks like Saltwater (featuring Maire Brennan) and Don't Give Up (featuring Bryan Adams) are great dance tracks Chicane have also produced some great chillout tracks such as Low Sun and No Ordinary Morning that I enjoy relaxing to and have played on hospital radio a few times. I could play the album all day long ...
