Advantages: every song Disadvantages: takes a few listens
...After hearing the lead single from 'La Vida... Es Un Ratico', 'Me Enamora' I was glad to see Juanes back, but was distinctly unimpressed. I wanted to hear something new from one of my favourite artists but instead I had a typical (if not also catchy and well written) love song with guitar riffs and solos very similar to those heard on 'La Camisa Negra' and (albeit one of my favourite Juanes songs), A Dios Le Pido. But I semi-reluctantly bought this album and did not regret it, certainly after a few listens. There is not a single dud or filler on the album, possibly a first for a Juanes album and in that respect surpassing my favourite Juanes album, the multi-award winning Un Día Normal. Advantages: tuneful rock with a latin flavour Disadvantages: all the lyrics are in spanish
...Juanes delivers the most fiesty, danceable rock you've ever heard. He's a Columbian rock star who's huge all over Latin America and Europe, and deservedly so. To my English ears, his sound, which draws on lots of latin dances, is really fresh. It's just a shame that people think artists who sing in Spanish can't make it in Britain, cos this guy's the best antidote to depressive angst-ridden boys with guitars ever. He's a voice from the land of eternal summer come to rid you of the rainy-day blues.
'Un dia normal' (I don't think that needs a translation) is his second album, and a really good place to start. The first track, 'A Dios le pido' is a prayer full of the joy of life. Advantages: A great collection of live recordings Disadvantages: All but the last 3 tracks have already been released on the Peel Sessions CD
...After a few years of no releases from Adam Ant, there seems to be something of a revival at the moment. With the Antbox boxed set released in december and now this excellANT CD. The Complete Radio 1 Sessions is exactly what it says on the cover. The tracks are taken from four recording sessions at Radio 1. Tracks 1-4 recorded for John Peel 23/1/78, tracks 5-8 recorded for John Peel 10/7/78, tracks 9-12 recorded for John Peel 26/3/79 and tracks 13-15 recorded for Simon Mayo 13/1/95 16 years later.
