...John Rutters Gloria, is THE best Gloria i have ever heard, i have had the privalage to have performed this with the National Youth Choir of Wales, and when performed live it is breathtaking. John Rutter uses massive brass parts to add huge dynamics to the piece, his use of timpani is outstanding. the piece is mainly in Bb and has 3 movements. Personaly i think there hasn't been a better composer in centuries, and i still believe that John Rutter is unfound. When his works reach the world, they will echo the corners of the globe forever. they truly are magnificent.
this CD is uplifting, and a joy to listen too. take some time out of a busy schedule and listen to this CD you wont regret it.
please note these are only my opinions and thoughts. i dont care that my spelling and grammar are not up to standard, and i dont wish people...

What sweeter music? Review ofJohn Rutter Collection, The - Cambridge Singers & The City Of London Sinfonia Brass/John Rby

Advantages: many diverse musical styles, talented vocals, and wonderful musical arrangement Disadvantages: none, so long as you enjoy choral music.

In 1975, he became the director of music there, directing the choir in a number of recordings and radio and television broadcasts. As well as composing and conducting, he also works as a musical editor. He lives and works in Cambridge still, although he also guest conducts other choirs all over the world.
Although most of his music is religious, Rutter himself has admitted (most notably on the program 60 minutes) that he is not particularly religious...

...but with a clear air of reverence and sanctity. All choir parts are distinguishable (a tribute to both Stanford, and the sound quality of this compilation) and each contributes to a magnificant wholeness sound.
This clarity is to be found in all the other tracks as well.
This CD cannot really be considered on its own, it is part of a collection, and rightly so. As part of the collection it contributes well. On its own it cannot seek to do justice to Stanford's choral abilities, however, it provides a platform to showcase the breadth of his work.
Lovers of the Choral and Sacred music traditions should certainly consider this collection. For those who want to listen to more of Stanford it is a must-buy....
