I was hopeful for this album based on the very catchy first single 'Girlfriend' but I have to say having listened to the full album I'm not as impressed as I had hoped to be.
There are a few immediately enjoyable songs, my favourites (apart from 'Girlfriend') being, 'I Can Do Better' and 'Everything Back But You'. I feel that most of the other songs are more or less filler although there could be some growers in there, particularly 'Runaway' and 'The Best Damn Thing'.
Overall I think the album is quite enjoyable and shows some progression from 'Let Go' (which is the last of Avril's albums that I actually felt compelled to buy). I feel that this album is much more upbeat than previous offerings and that can only be a good thing.
However I do feel that for all its good points it is still not a particularly strong album - it is good but could be so much better. It is definitely one for existing fans but I can see the upbeat mood which permeates most of the album appealing to new listeners.
I've rated the album as good because for me the catchy, upbeat nature of the songs I particularly enjoyed outweighed the downside of the fillers throughout the rest of the album.
