the best in town is the second full album released by the welsh post hardcore band , the blackout. Having listened to the previous album i had high hopes for the album although this is the first album on their new record label Epitah so my concern was that they would keep the right formula. The unique 6 member band fshowcase welsh talent for post hardcore rock music, their real unique feature is that of two singers for screaming and melodies which adds up to a very polished and individual sound.

This album , the best in town proves to me that the success of the first full album was no fluke delivering a powerfull sound with heavy guitar riffs and scorching screamo amongst the melodic singing. The addition of a guest singer who is the lead singer of youmeatsix was also a pleasent surpirse when listening to the album.

Tracklist:
1.Shut-the-fuck-uppercut
This is a fantastic start to the album and they start with how they mean to go on. A bang right from the off with heavy riffs and loud drums and even louder screamo, this is an aggressive track similar to that off their first album. the first ten seconds could be mistaken with a thrash metal band!

2.Save our selves(the warning)
the second song calms down cosiderably from the first , with much more polished melodic sound which still has strong guitar riffs as the undertone. much more muted vocals are used in the verse to create a good post hardcore tune.

3.Top of the world
This is much more of a pop/punk sounding song which is radio friendly, catchy lyrics occumpany clean guitar and all round well written song. Personally i dont like this sound as much as the first two tracks but others will apreciate alot more.

4.The Fire
Back to the same old screamo mixed amongst the vocals which work so well, the vocals and lyrics are perticulary strong in this song with just start to finish energy which would have the crowd going crazy. My favourite track on the album

5. The Children of the NIght
Anouther tune which leans towards pop/punk but retains enough heavy guitar and bass to give it the distinctive Blackout sound, and the chorus song with all members gives it a deep sound, the lyrics to get a bit predictable for this song, similar to many other bands of this genre

6.Said and Done
Again the lyrics are pretty standard stuff but this fast paced song is anouther 3 minutes of vintage blackout. Also this has an exceptional breakdown halfway thorugh the song which really highlights Sean Smiths singing ability.

7.Silent(When we speak)
this song can only be descirbed as an average attempt at a heartfelt ballad. this was the real let down of the album which doesnt really capture the feeling that these guys are capable off, none the less it still is well put togther and listenable but definatly my least favourite track on the album

8. I love myself and i want to live
This is a great song which has mechanical rhythem and beat which is so catchy. This really is a unique track on the album with running bass lines and crisp drums that deliver anouther tune that has a good bit of hardcore in it as well!

9.This is why we can't have nice things

guest vocals from Josh Franceschi of You Me At Six make for a great anthem. Anouther great sounding track which has all the makings of a defining song on the album. Good mix of upbeat drums helps create a really feel few moments on the album.

10. We're going to hell so bring the sunblock

a brilliant ending to the album as the blackout really unleash a powerfull piece of post hardcore musc on the emo scene, This just screams out at you as a song and really rounds off the album well with fat guitar riffs and ear piercing drums. Just the ending i wanted to the album as its what the blackout to best

To cut to the chase the blackout have delivered yet again with a post hardcore gem. Got it for only £8 and it is worth every penny, only a few mediocre songs let it down with some predictable pop/punk filler but i still recomend this highly.
