So often Greatest Hits compilations fail to deliver, usually providing the biggest hits but not always the hardcore fan's favourites or the other popular tunes. This one though, is the best compilation I have ever heard, and it even features a (free) bonus CD featuring some brilliant mixes by greats such as Norman Cook and C.J. Mackintosh. Everything is here - the classics like "Can I Kick It?" and "Bonita Applebum" - and it is so refreshing to see that huge hits like these have not lost any appeal and have not become a commercialised standard sound. Awesome. There's even Q-Tip's solo track "Vivrant Thing" which was a nice feature of the album. If you like funk, dance, hip-hop or rap or something you can just chill out and enjoy in any mood, then you cannot go far wrong with this awesome album. ...
Advantages: Bangers throughout Disadvantages: Nothing specific
Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Mr. Muhammad and Jarobi White came together again in 1993 as A TribeCalledQuest to bring their third album ?Midnight Marauders?. The new Yorkers come with even more of their alternative, Jazz-infleunced material that was seen to rival the Hip Hop of the West Coast which was predominantly Gangsta rap material (and was spreading back towards the East).
1. ?Midnight Marauders Tour Guide? (Intro)
2. ?Steve Biko?

Advantages: GREAT Beats for the most part... Disadvantages: ...MEDIOCRE Rhymes for the most part...
I went into Beats, Rhymes, and Life hoping that I wouldn't have to say that Midnight Marrauders and The Low End Theory are the only albums by A TribeCalledQuest that matter. I was really hoping that. Even though People's Instinctive Travels... got a 5 Mic rating in The Source, when I listened to it a couple of years ago I was not impressed by it's performance (like GSP) and reviewed it here on the site. I had this album lying around and decided to pop in it, hoping for some gems. Well there definitely were some, but they are few and far between and still not truly good enough songs to qualify them as gems. I can't really comment on the Tribe's final album, The Love Movement, because I've never heard it nor do I plan to anytime this calendar year. Today though, I'll take a quick look at Beats, Rhymes, and Life and share some thoughts ...
