Review of Comin' Home To The Blues Vol.2 - Various Artists by
Martinscholes
Advantages: Every one you can think of
Disadvantages: none
...type of Jazz.
Amongst the other tracks is Wang Dang Doodle by Koko Taylor. From the high notes of the amazing guitar licks and the strong, sexy tones of Koko's extraordinary voice, you know you are listening to the best of the best. It's different, it's brash and it is one hell of a power filled song. The story goes that the Young Koko Taylor was somewhat scared of the lyrics of the song and didn't really understand them. She was told not to worry, that it would be a hit. Guess what? It was!
You have heard versions of I'd Rather Go Blind. If you haven't heard Etta James' version of this song, then you really haven't heard this song. Her rendition of this song really is that good.
There is a total of 24 tracks on this CD. If you have even a passing interest in the Blues, you'll love his CD. And Washboard Sam really does play washboard...

My Recommedation - buy this and all HMHB CDs
Review of Editor's Recommendation - Half Man Half Biscuit by
coleecip
Advantages: Track 6
Disadvantages: Only an EP - can't play to the kids
...middle class and life in country villages.
My favourite line:
"Feng Shui OK
Grab the DVD
Keep it upstairs till the Bailiff's been
And I'll make herbal tea"
3. Lark Descending - a slow weary rambling song about nothing in particular - the weakest track on the EP.
"I could have like Lou Barlow, but I'm more like Ken Barlow."
4. Worried Man Blues - a happy blues song which denies the unworried man the right to sing this song. Like a less morbid version of "Song for Whoever" by the Beautiful South.
5. New York Skiffle - A genuine skiffle song but be warned the chorus is:
"Does your heroine lose its glamour on the washboard over night?
When your mother says don't do it do you cook it up in spite.
Do you rob your brother's giro?
Do you talk a load of shite?
Does your heroine lose its glamour on the washboard overnight?"
6. Vatican Broadside...

The Killers Sam"s Town
Review of Sam's Town - Killers (The) by
dlp100
Advantages: A different sort of music.
Disadvantages: Only 13 songs on it.
...This is a very different album to what im used to listening to, at first i didnt like it i thought i couldnt get into it or try to pick up the words as i like to sing along to songs, but as i have listened to it more ive picked up on them.
The lead singer Brandon Flowers has a fantastic and unique voice and makes this album as good as it is, without his vocals it just wouldnt work.
The music itself is fantastic and it is quite instrumental and they use what sounds like an organ in most songs, I think it goes great to the first track Sam"s Town.
My favourite tracks are When You Were Young, Sam"s Town and Read My MInd.
I love Sam"s Town because of the introduction and the words mean alot, When You Were Young is excellent its about childhood and the words are excellent.
In a nutshell this is a brillianty written and performed album...
