he's as confused and immature as the rest of us. He doesn't know why he's here, not really, beyond loving music. He quit Iron Maiden and learnt to fly, because he felt he had to earn respect. He was locked into a cycle of self-mutilation. He recorded an album with legendary grunge producer Jack Endino. He had massive hits in South America. He nicked the guitarist from A Tribe of Gypsies, and let go when he had to. He had three days to write a song to satisfy Mercury Records in the US, and all he had to go on was a cassette of Aerosmith'sRocksshoved under a hotel door. He was the perfect choice to write music for theNightmare on Elm Streetmovie--but in the excitement of producing a No.1 hit, the original version of "Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter" got suppressed. As far as the hits go, they're all here on this mid-career retrospective, from the brutal "Darkside of Aquarius" to "Accident of Birth" to the nostalgic "Born in '58".The Best of Bruce Dickinson--it does what it says on the tin.--Everett True

Advantages: Interesting Career Change Disadvantages: Some weak tracks
...So the great BruceBruce (as he was so memorably called in his Samson days!) has broken away from Iron Maiden and become a fully-fledged solo artist. Inevitably this release will be compared to Maiden's material, but apart from a couple of tracks it's actually pretty different.
The single, "Tears of the Dragon" is probably the most Maideny song here - which is probably why the record company released it - and is in fact something of a classic, perfectly suited to Bruce's distinctive vocal style, while "Gods of War" features a guitar break which could have been lifted from any IM album.
Mind you, all this harking back is probably unfair, and the album should be taken as a piece of work in its own right. As such, it is certainly better than Brucie's previous solo effort "Tattooed Millionaire", but not as entertaining as most Maiden...

BruceDickinson is the lead singer of Iron Maiden. He also has a solo band, and this is his 6th studio album.
The introduction is a short piece of music, a few vocals, guitar and drums. It gets you in the mood for the music, kind of building up for the start of Abduction.
Abduction is a heavy track, fast guitar riffs and a catchy chorus. It does sound a bit like Iron Maiden, although a bit heavier with the double-bass drumming fills and palm muted guitar.
Soul Intruders starts heavy with drumming and Bruce singing with palm muted guitar. It then develops...

Advantages: Excellent production for a live album, great atmosphere Disadvantages: Tracks lose some polish.
...there is inimitably BruceDickinson at his best), but there is a lot of poetry recorded. I gather that Bruce read bits of William Blake's poetry to set the atmosphere before each song, as most of Chemical Wedding is based on the poetry of Blake. This works surprisingly well in a live situation, and doesn't seem like a lesson from your old English teacher at all.
Overall, one of the best live albums I have ever heard. Some minor disappointments commonly associated with live recordings, but nothing which spoils the quality of the awesome songs on this album played live. And you have to hear Bruce singing live, because nothing short of that can prove that that man is one of the best singers in any genre of music today....
