Review of Thunderstruck - Gordon Duncan by dmilligan935

Advantages: Unique Compositions and outstanding playin
Disadvantages: Not as much supporting instruments as just for seamus cd.

...Gordon Duncan (Highland bagpipe, chanter, whistles) with Neil Fergusson (bouzouki), Tony McManus (guitar), Ewan Vernal (bass) and John Scullion (snare drum). Produced by Tony McManus. Well what can i say, if you haven't heard this late great legend play then i do recommend buying this cd. I can honestly say that he was one of the best bagpipers in the world, and it was a huge shock when he passed away. His playing in this cd is phenomenal, from the traditional march, straspheys and reels, to his own unique compositions, one of which is the title name of this album. Track listing 2/4 Marches - The marches are Glengarry Highland Gathering, Bonnie Ann, and Renfrewshire Militia. Gordon plays these 2/4's with great fingering technique. The '98 Jig - The Trip to Moreda, Jig o' Beer, The '98 Jig The Belly Dancer - This track is a first... Read review

Kick-start the noise
Review of Ignition - Offspring (The) by tonguelessghostofsin

Advantages: Raw, distorted and very punkworthy
Disadvantages: None, because it is music made for the right reasons

...response here; Dexter: "All i really need is just somewhere to hide away" Band chanting: "KICK HIM WHEN HE'S DOWN!" And the chorus finishes with; Dexter: "Hey, don't worry, i'll get along home alright". 4. 'Take it like a man' A hypnotically fast and squealing guitar melody marauds along, with Dexter's powerful vocals and background wails from band making this an incredible song. Superb lyrically, it is a thunderous treat from start to finish. Note some magnificent drumming from Welty. 5. 'Get it right' Not the greatest melody, but a great message, and untouchably affecting lyrics about hopelessness with an individual's situation and life in general; "Do you think you'd sell your soul to just have one thing turn out right? For the thousandth time, you turn and find it just makes no difference to try. Like Haulden Caulfield, i tell myself... Read review

Second best Pearl Jam album
Review of Binaural - Pearl Jam by 5against1

Advantages: It's a long album (13 tracks) and there is an excellent mixture of hard and soft songs
Disadvantages: The production is different to any Pearl Jam album - the drums sound hollow at points

...Binaural is a far, far throw away from any previous Pearl Jam release. The band no longer produce grunge music. Instead, the new album focuses, for the most part, on delicate vocals and considered, mellow hooks. Tracks such as "Of a Girl" and "Light Years" highlight the dexterity of the band when it comes to writing a ballad. That's not to say there are no rockier tracks. Grammy nomiated hard rock song "Grievance" stands out as being the catchiest Pearl Jam song in a long while, and "Insignificance" is a poignant lament of the use of bombs during a war. This album can be enjoyed by anyone who did not like the early or mid-career Pearl Jam material. It's not, howevever, for grunge rockers looking for a re-incarnation of the early 90s Seattle sound.... Read review
