other recorded artist in the world. Tiny, frail, and tragic in her life, Piaf brought French identity to the rest of the world in a way that was understandable to all. Known as the Little Sparrow in her country, her voice was strong, bold, and passionate, even as she grew more infirm. The archetypical torch singer, she had massive popular success with songs like "Milord," "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien," and "La Vie, L'Amour," included here with 18 other classics. While this is a great compilation of some of her best material, the complete lack of enclosed notes or biographical material may frustrate those not familiar with her fascinating career. However, the work of one of the most original songbirds of all time speaks loud and clear for itself. --Derek Rath

...Amelie was a great success worldwide and listening to the soundtrack makes you relive the best scenes of the film. Yann Tiersen is truly a great composer and this soundtrack is so full of positive feelings that can make you feel happier just by listening to it!
The sound of the classical instruments used is very clear, he also used some light effects on a few tracks, like old vinyl record crackles. The melodies are simple and so beautiful, that is what makes it so easy to listen. The presence of the accordion really reminds of old French songs, a bit in the spirit of EdithPiaf's. All the ingredients are there to make it music you can listen to at any time. I listened to this CD over and over again, while traveling, studying, cooking, and it cheers me up and makes me dream.
The only little thing I would put as a minus is that it can...

...So back to Jeff Buckley and back to 1995, Paris, the famous stage where the great EdithPiaf made a name for herself, Jeff Buckley peforms what he said what his best live performance. This disk captualates this performance and true digital quality, and shows why Buckley felt the performance was what it was.
As with all my reviews a song by song break down seems in order.
The album opens with a stunning live version of "Lover you should have come on over" and the performace starts with a bit of banter from the crowd, before Buckley shows his true emotion and deep quality of his almost trademark voice. The performance is some what an extended version of the studio cover, allowing Buckley to transform simple parts into elongated moans or emotional fortitude. His voice carrying the listening far and wide, and the lyrics as always...
