Advantages: Stays true to Fear Factory sound Disadvantages: Some tracks take a little getting used to
...This latest release from metal titans FearFactory came as rather a shock to me as the first track I heard was "What Will Become", the opening number, at a club and thought to myself "This is FearFactory?". Slight fears about what had become of a band that I love so much stalled me from purchasing the album, but then I heard the next single "Linchpin", and it blew me away. So out I went and bought the album, and boy am I glad I did.
FearFactory have definately evolved as a group while not losing what fundamentally made them in the first place - the variations in vocals (going from screaming to melodic singing) and the ripping fast guitars by Dino Cazares and the double kick drums of Raymond Herrera. These all combined since the beginning to create what makes FearFactory so distinctive in the world of metal, and I'm glad to say...

Advantages: original , raw sound , interesting vocal style , great guitar riffs Disadvantages: lack of awesome drumming when compared with later works , slightly repetitive
...if you are more into later fearfactory albums such as digimortal or transgression you may not like this album much. However for a debut album this is a remarkable feat and as a long time fearfactory fan this is definitely a favourite of mine , along side Demanufacture.
Stand Out Tracks
Martyr - The first track. Although not the most heaviest on the album the lyrics are some of the best here, the guitar parts are incredibly catchy while not comprimising a raw and harsh death metal sound. This is my favourite track on the album and one FearFactory regularly play at their shows.
Scum Grief - Another very powerful track, this is where Bell's vocal talents are best heard, there is a nice balance between the vocal styles here, the song is 4 minutes long, and has more than enough variety with guitar parts to keep the listener engaged...

Advantages: Better than any other Fear Factory album. Disadvantages: Bit too heavy for mainstream people.
...What a true return to form - FearFactory have kicked aside their inferior nu-metal sound on Digimortal and risen back as the true kings of Industrial Hardcore! The departure of Dino was in fact a blessing - FearFactory have NEVER sounded so good. The band temporarily broke up prior to the creation of this album, but it is a miracle that they came back together, as the metal world would have been deprived of this masterpiece. There is no doubt that this album will contribute to future hearing difficulties for the listener - but that is to be expected if you want to really appreciate Metal.
My favourite song on the album has to be Corporate Cloning - never before have FearFactory made such a catchy melody on such a heavy song. It was trapped in my head for days (and was ringing in my ears for weeks - ha). Cyberwaste is the most...
