Best Of Flowered Up, The - Flowered Up

Advantages: great music, lyrics and vocals. Refreshing sound. Quality debut album
Disadvantages: mish mash of genres.

...Whilst on holiday I as sat around the pool looking for inspiration, but couldn't really be bothered wading through the 10,000 songs on my wife's iPod. So I put it on random shuffle and the first thing that popped up was a song that blew me away. Whilst I had heard it several times before I didn't really know who it was by and by the time I had listened to the full album I was hooked. The song was "Mr Brightside". The album was "Hot Fuss". The band was "The Killers". I was mesmerized. I just had to find out about this band and was surprised to hear them described as "The best British band to come out of America". The surprising thing for me was that I thought they were a British band as the album has a huge British rock and New Wave influence coursing right through it so to find they were American was a major surprise. ...This is a great CD. It really exemplifies what Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are capable off. 4/9 songs are on Greatest Hits, and the other 5 are worth listening. This is really this band at its best. Refugee is a classic, Here Comes My Girl, Even the Losers, Don't Do Me Like That are fantastic as well. Louisiana Rain is a great up tempo ballad. I wish the CD had a few more tracks, because the band was certainly on a roll with material. This album ended up being the bands first platinum album, and it is easy to see why. Pick it up, listen to it and love it. I would ran this right up with Full Moon Fever and Wild Flowers as the best Petty albums.... Read review

Advantages: The quality of Flower Kings with a dark rock edge.
Disadvantages: Only a single album!! We need more!

...of tulips i the summer, and this one is no different. The chorus is harmonic and Hans really brings it together with his powerful voice. A prog pop song that has all the ingredients of a Flower Kings song but a bit on the short side. 8. Timelines Starts off hard and fast and goes on for one minute when the song takes on a totally different feel. Roine sings blues to an acoustic guitar. The chorus picks back up in a warm prog harmonious way. The rest of the song continues on this lovely mix of bluesy verse and prog rock chorus with awesome harmonies that stop you in your tracks! Don't miss the fab bluesy guitar solo's on this track. Until the final minute which mirrors the hard and fast beginning of the song leading into the final 30 seconds which has a very dark and brooding feel. 9. Drivers Seat Another epic at 18:21 long.
