Commercial manages to encapsulate much of a career that deliberately defied any such attempts. This is the most accessible single collection of Zappa's music available, containing familiar ditties such as "Don't Eat The Yellow Snow", "Joe's Garage" and the radio hit "Valley Girl". Those skeptical of his guitar work will most certainly find the included selections, "Sexual Harassment in the Workplace," "I'm the Slime" and "Muffin Man" to be educational. Excellent for whetting the appetites of potential Zappa fanatics. --Andrew Boscardin

band on a collection of crowd-pleasing favourites, concert staples and cover songs. Zappa's crystalline Stratocaster sound (a far cry from the "squank" of the 1970s) highlights some of the most lyrical and inspired solo guitar work of his life. Highlights include an adrenaline charged version of "Zomby Woof" a thoroughly rocking turn at Ravel's Bolero, and a horn arrangement of Jimmy Page's "Stairway to Heaven" guitar solo. --Andrew Boscardin
Album Notes: Frank Zappa carved out an eccentric niche for himself in the rock history books, and this compilation album presents some of the highlights of his career spread over 15 tracks.
...'If we can't be free, we can at least be cheap', said FrankZappa. When you pick up a CD and the price label says £3.99, you expect it to be by some nobobdy who had one No.37 hit ten years ago. When it says Zappa on it you may as well buy it there and then. When you then look and see titles like 'Joe's Garage', 'The Torture Never Stops' and 'You are what you is' you must think that some 16 year old assistant has put the wrong sticker on it and it should be £13.99.
However, the price is right and whether you buy it as a starter to get into Zappa, or as a quick addition to your bulging FZ collection, it will be the best few pounds you spend. From the Lennon voice on 'I could be a star now' to 'My guitar wants to kill your mama' it is pure quality of some of the more accessible Zappa. Used as a foil to something like The Yellow Shark...

zappa's finest hour Review ofYou Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol.3 - FrankZappaby
welshpete
Advantages: Amazing musicians with tongues well in cheeks Disadvantages: You may have to think...
...It's may come as a strong statement, but I would rate disc one of YCDTOSA Vol 3 as the best hour amonst Frank's huge output - just the right mix of musicianship and comedy, and a guest appearance by Dweezil to boot! From the intracacies of 'Drowning Witch' to the humour of 'Bobby Brown goes Down' and 'Ride my face to Chicago'; the album throws up great quotes both musically and lyrically. Anyone who fails to catch the groove of 'Chana in de Bushwap' and 'Joe's Garage' has no timing anyway. As with the rest of the series, the editing together and flow of the selections adds to the whole package.
The second disc of the album show much more deep musicality, but would be carried on the strength of 'King Kong' and Terry Bozzio's amazing 'Hands with a Hammer' alone. And the stunning 'Zoot Allures' and 'Cosmic Debris' and you have a quality...

Advantages: An insight into the great mind that was - Frank Zappa Disadvantages: May be a little to wild for some people.
...Apostrophe was released in 1974 on the 'Zappa' label.
Track One - Don't Eat the Yellow Snow
''
Quite a famous track for Zappa, but at 2mins 7secs it doesn't really provide much of an insight into what the album is going to be like. Also, as you probably have already understood, the 'yellow snow' meaning.
Track Two - Nanook Rubs It
'
Another funny track from Zappa, but once again doesn't really show his great creativity.
Track Three - St. Alfonzo's pancake breakfast
''
From the title you can probably grasp that this track is going to be quite interesting... and you wouldn't be wrong. Very tight...
