Advantages: Excellent chill out music, what a voice! Disadvantages: You can't sing along to some songs cos you can't suss the words out!
...Just sitting here tonight chilling I read an opinion earlier that gave GregoryIsaacs a mention. Now, he's been one of my favourites for years so I thought I'd share one of his many albums with you. Red Rose For Gregory was released way back in 1988 but has been re-released many times due to it's unerring popularity, hopefully this review will convince you to give him a try. So who is GregoryIsaacs? He's only THE reggae dancehall master - Sean Paul wasn't even born when Gregory started releasing his reggae classics and now Sean Paul is not only born but also out of nappies and into condoms, Gregory is still doing the business. He's well over 50 now and commonly referred to as the 'Grandaddy of Reggae', not bad for a guy who was at one time being busted for gun charges on a regular basis in 70's Jamaica!

Their first 6 months together were spent in a cellar while they learned how to play their instruments as a band, practicing songs from their favorite artists such as GregoryIsaac's. UB40's first...

Advantages: 95 pukka reggae tunes ! Disadvantages: Its 40 squid so not so great if your skint !
...I was immensely chuffed to find "Tougher Than Tough..." as I had been looking for a compilation which included all the classic tunes that I heard as a kid and still hear at places like Notting Hill Carnival. One of these is "Greetings" by Half Pint (you might know it :- "Greetings from Jah I bring, to all raggamuffin..."). Other classics are "Night Nurse" by GregoryIsaacs, "Ring the alarm" by Tenor Saw and "Under Me Sleng Teng" by Wayne Smith. Basically it includes every significant reggae moment from early Prince Buster and Ken Boothe to Shabba Ranks et al.
Before continuing i should probably mention that it is a four cd compilation that cost about £40. Having said this it comes with a booklet which details the complete history of reggae music. In addition you would be hard pushed to find all of THE classic tunes anywhere else, so...
