.... The gift that Joni Mitchell as is that of making you feel that the songs are for you, that she is singing them for you. It is a very personal experience.
Joni Mitchell went on to make other great record; 'Court and Spark' (1974), the more jazz influenced 'The Hissing on Summer Lawns (1975), Hejira (1976) and Mingus (1979) as well as more recently the more pop orientated 'Dog Eat Dog' (1985) and 'Taming The Tiger' (1998).
But 'Blue' remains probably her most perfect record.
'Blue' was rated No.28 in NME's all time best albums ever and No. 9 in best albums of the 70's.
It has also been included in Q magazine's Best Chill-Out Albums of All Time and Vibe magazine's 100 Essential Albums of the 20th Century

Advantages: superb singer songwriter Disadvantages: takes a little patience to listen too
...a deep rich texture to the track, along with the addition of Bill Dillon’s pedal steel guitar playing underlining lines in the song such as “we love the open road”. The percussion touches by Alex Acuña and Larry Klein finish off the sound of the song, as the vocals and music begin to fade the sound of the cicadas get louder for a second or two and then they too start to disappear.
As the following track “Passion Play (when all the slaves are free)” starts Larry Klein’s bass is heard to announce along with Joni’s picking out the main theme of the track on her acoustic guitar, as well as sing the main vocal Ms Mitchell has supplied her own backing vocals. Bill Dillon’s guitar fills just behind the sound of the acoustic guitar punches out lines “in Exxon Blue” to great effect. The use...

Advantages: tuneful melodies powerful lyrics in a consistent collection of songs. Disadvantages: not everyones cup of tea, some may find the album a bit samey
...Turbulent Indigo is an album by the fabulous Joni Mitchell. I bought my album from amazon about a year ago and it cost about £7 including post and packaging. (It was an "Excellent Condition" used album) This album has become one of her most critically acclaimed releases. It won two Grammy's in 1996, one for best pop album, winning over Madonna, Mariah Carey and Annie Lennox. The second was for the recording package. The paintings in the sleeve are beautiful - they burst not with simply indigo but with magnificent coulours and shapes. The album was released on October 25, 1994. This is certainly one of Joni Mitchell's rawest, to-the-core/bone albums and I think how much you like or don't like it depends partly on how much rawness you can take.
As far as Joni's folky -sounding stuff goes, I absolutely love the album "Blue". I...
