Advantages: Enjoyable folk music Disadvantages: Not to eveyone's taste
I have been watching this group for a number of years, they originally started perfoming in 1976, and their first live show in a theatre was at St Helens Theatre in 1978.
The Houghton Weavers have released many albums since they first started, but this album has a varied track list which include some old and new tracks.
Track 1- Ballad Of Wigan Pier
This song tells about Wigan Pier, in the olden days, it talks ... ...know wigan at all,the pier is in the centre of town, so its quite ironic really.
Track 2- Where do we go from here
This is about what people were deciding to do after the war,because in the olden days eveyone used to say 'where do we go from here'.
Track3 - We want to work
This track tells about people who are finding it hard to find work, beacuse of the shortage of jobs.

Track 4 - Martians Have Landed In Wigan This track tells about a spacehip that lands in wigan, and when the martians figure out that they have landed in the wrong place they decide to go amongst the folk of wigan and find jobs, and they get the taste for black pudding,very amusing song.
Track 5 - Balckpool Belle This tells about the olden days when eveyone used to go to Blackpool, and wear 'kiss me quick hats'and go through the 'tunnel of love', and catch the last train home.
Track 6 - Maggie not much to say abut this as i don't really remember it.
Track 7 - All for Me Grog This is all about a mans love for Beer and Tobacco, and no matter what anyone tells him nothing matters as long as he has his beer and tobacco.
Track 8 - Home Boys Home This this tells about all the lads who went of to serve in the war, and how they want to come home to spend some time in their own country.
Track 9 - When You Were Sweet Sixteen All about two lovers who first met when they were sixteen.
Track 10 - Rose Of Tralee This Track is about a lady who seems to remind the men about the lovely time they had in tralee, vey good song.
Track 11 - Old Miner This is about what happens to a miner once he gets to a certain age, as he had been workin in the pit for many years, but as soon as he reaches 65 they get rid of you, even if you are fit enough to carry on.very moving song.
Track 12 - Mist Over The Mersey This tells about the river mersey in Liverpool.
Track 13 - Room in The Sky Sad song about a man who lives in a house with his pet dog, but the council tells him he has to move to a tower block, but he's not allowed to take his dog with him, very moving song.
Track 14 - Dutchman Moving song about a dutchman who used to work on the river, but he is not well and his wife has to look after him, and tell him how things used to be.
Track 15 - Banks of The Roses About two lovers when they went on a picnic on the bank of the river.
Track 16 - God Must Love The Poor Tells about how the poor seem to get looked after when things are really bad.
Track 17 - That Stranger Is A Friend This track is about the people you haven't yet met, but the stranger is a friend.
Track 18 - Will Ye Go Lassie Go This is a Scottish song, asking if the young girl will go and follow her lover.
Track 19 - Success To The Weavers Tells about all the weaving sheds in the various towns in the north, and how it was one person who started it all, but unfortunately he died before it all became the successfull business that it was.
Track 20 - Mingulay Boat Song Don't know much about this song.
I would recommend this album to other people, as its an easy listening, contemporary folk music.
