I'll find my way home is a song that I listened to in a period of my life when I was lost, and I have to say ... ...of security. It's a lovely song.
State of Independence was probably one of their most well known hits, and it really does pass the test of time. Upbeat, and optimistic, this song is the kind of song that makes you tap your feet and feel alive.
One More time. This is probably one of the weak links on this album although even saying that, Jon Anderson makes you think about your life and the way that you perceive it to ... more
I am editing this review because I have kind of taken for granted that everyone knows of Jon and Vangelis and it is clear that they don't. Vangelis has been writing music for a long time, and the kind of music that he writes is music that is listened to so much but heard of by few. If you think of films like Chariots of Fire for example, you probably remember the opening music which was very memorable. That was Vangelis. A lot of his work is done on synthathizers and it is a clever construction of what I would define as classical music, not always easy to listen to, although the majority of it stands out more than other writers of his style such as the French composer Jean Michel Jarre, or perhaps Mike Oldfield in his Tubular Bells style. It is this gendre of music that Vangelis excels in.
Italian Song was ringing in my ears yesterday and I asked Ciao to produce this category because if you like music of a classical nature, you will love this song. Jon and Vangelis come together to produce a song that is almost a classic of our times. It reminds me of church music to some extent, and if you close your eyes, you can almost imagine the choir singing, and the pomp of a ceremony, because this music really is astounding, and Jon Andersons voice wonderful in his rendition of Italian Song.

Play within a play is another song that is soft and melodious though not that memorable.
Friends of Mr. Cairo. Now no one who is a Vangelis fan could fail to like this one. This is a classic Vangelis song of his popular ilk and comes from the album of the same name.
Outside of this. This is a great song. The words seem to bring out all that is good in me. I always feel refreshed when I have listened to this song. Jon Andersons voice is soft and inviting, and its a song that is maybe a little sad, but one that goes from strength to strength, culminating in the fanale.
He is Sailing. Another song that seems a good follow up of the last one.
Somehow Vangelis has this knack of making one song work with the next one, and its almost like listening to a story. Sometimes, I put the headset on, turn off the world, turn on the music and Jon and Vangelis take me to another dimension, one of imagination, one of thoughts, one of hope and one of fantasy even.
Their work will stand out long into the future, and I am sure will be voted classical because that really is what Vangelises music is, classical music of our time.
