Advantages: It's really good. Disadvantages: It's not really bad.
...If you believe his boasts, Max Tundra was rejected by many record labels, including Aphex Twin's 'Rephlex Records', for having "too many ideas". This is his greatest charm, that his style is his lack of any consistant style. On this album, his first, he reinvents himself with every track, and quite often within tracks.
'Some Best Friend...' is packed with the kind of childlike inventiveness which you only ever hear on musician's first 4-track noodlings. The kind of inventiveness that is usually caged and focussed before a first album is released. Max Tundra defies all genres, yet encompasses them all, whilst managing to be uplifting, unpredictable and silly in the best possible way. However, reviewing him is quite tricky. Advantages: A large selection of great tracks Disadvantages: Just a couple of bad ones thrown in, but it all really depends on your taste
...underscored by music written many years earlier. The pieces of this album are pieces that you can enjoy again and again. They are the best examples of pieces written for films in recent years, as well as some of the great pieces that were wrote by classical masters.
