Best Of Oddities And Versions - Damned (The)

Advantages: Good selection
Disadvantages: Not really representative as a "best of"

...Generally speaking I think "Best of/Hits" compilations of one band are a good idea, especially on CDs, as it allows both the poorer ones among us to renew our aged vinyl collection and 'newbies' to a band to get a good feel for them before leaping into the rest of their material. However "Eternally Damned - The Very Best of The Damned" I find to be quite a misrepresentation of the bands' 25 year career and numerous albums (I have 11 but I'm sure there's more!). How all that can be summarised on one 20 track CD I can't fathom, and on this one it definitely hasn't been. True, there's a glut of 'Best of' albums for The Damned - "The Light at the End of the Tunnel" being currently the best one of the bunch. "Eternally Damned" misses out great chunks, in my opinion, with certain eras of the bands' career being missed altogether... Read review

...a 'set direction' - but you can say that about the majority of Damned albums. There's no set rule or formula here. I can't say this is the best Damned album that's ever been released, as it would have to go a long way to beat "The Black Album", "MGE", or "Strawberries" - but it's definately up there with them. Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of the album is the distribution/marketing. For this album, the band had signed to NITRO records, which is owned by the US band 'The Offspring'. It should have been (and deserves to be) a real ressurection for the band, but lack of promotion and limited distribution means that it's there and available for those 'that know about it and how to get it' - but the chances of it ever hitting the mainstream audience is slim to say the least. Advantages: Brilliant songs!!!
Disadvantages: there is none!!!

...!!! It has easy lyrics to sing along to and the lyrics are pretty easy to learn!!! It sounds like an easy put together song but If Avril did put this up in the charts it's possible it cult get to at least no.5!!! This song along with "girlfriend" has swearing in but they arn't major swear words!!! The third song "Runaway" also haves a brill melody but isn't as good as the first two!!! This song is much different to the other two songs because it's more casual rather than rockish!!! The Forth song "The Best Damn Thing" has a really good tune to it!!! It's all about guys and this is really really good!!! Everyone would love the song!!! The lyrics is really fast and it includes the audience!!!
