If only the film had been worthy of this soundtrack - Under The Cherry Moon the film was quite weak but this album stand as one of his best.
Album opener sets the tone and is quite different to his previous album - the hippyish Around the World in a Day - the sound is quite tinny but as Prince produces and arranges as usual you know that it is intentional. The only way to describe it is the singles off the album - Kiss, Another...Mountains, Girls & Boys - almost everyone knows these and these are what the album sounds like - if that makes sense.
It is hard to describe the musical style...

Advantages: A Return to form, Accessable Disadvantages: Not much of a progression from his previous work
...The best thing about this album is that unlike every Prince album for the past decade or so it doesn't sound like Prince is trying to prove some point or other. Instead he is relaxing and doing what he does best, entertaining! The lyrics are his usual. Love, bragging and dippy philosophy!
He also mentions the War On Terror but his take on it is to encourage fairly vague peace and love vibes and unlikely to offend one way or the other.

the sequences where Moses meets God in the burning bush
and for the crossing of the Red Sea are awe-inpsiring even
when divorced from the on-screen action, and real emotion
is conveyed in such tracks as 'Goodbye Brother' where the
essentially wordless vocals are provided by Ofra Haza.
But the big treat of the score is the sextet of songs
written by Stephhen Schwartz. His musical style has
evolved considerably since the days when he wrote the
bpuncy scores...
