Advantages: Classic tracks! Disadvantages: Misleading title, some songs previously on eponymous
The title is slightly misleading I'm afraid. This collection was released to cover REMs 'early career' which were originally released on IRS records before their mega bucks signing to Warner.
This period in REMs history included some of their most breathtaking and original work. 1.: Carnival Of Sorts - From their debut EP, typicla early REM jangly guitar track with catchy chorus.
2.: Radio Free Europe - A fans favourite this is the album version ... ...slightly though.
3.: Perfect Circle - Beautiful song from Murmur. In essance a piano ballard, tugs on the heart stringsnightswimming style (only with less production)
4.: Talk About The Passion - One of the weaker tracks on here, another track from murmur, however with a loboured guitar riff, does capture imagination so much
5.: So Central Rain - From Reckoning, one of their finest pieces of work. First played on Letterman before it had a name, ...

Well what can i say about R.E.M. they are one of the all time great bands. I bet theres not many people so havn't heard either "man on the moon" or "everybody hurts". I have never seen R.E.M live, but they are near the top of my list of must see bands. With numerous anthems under their belt, there isn't much else for this band to achieve.
