designed with the hard-core fan in mind. If your principal memory of The Cult, however, is "She Sells Sanctuary", you'll be pleased to know that it's included here in an extended version. A bunch of other rarities and B-sides, five of which are not included in the box set make this a must-own for stalwart fans as well. --Genevieve Williams

Advantages: Excellent band , will never get tired of Disadvantages: none
...The Cult formerly known as Southern Death Cult and Death Cult have been around for some time.In fact my wife saw them at Burnley Lancs back in the very early eighties, she said they were OK as Southern death Cult but got better as time went on.
The album Pure Cult ( For Rockers, Ravers, Lovers and Sinners) is an excellent album.
It is a compilation of their greatest hits. They are a very serious looking lot who consist of band members, Ian Astbury Vocalist.Billy Duffy , Serious Guitarist, Jamie Stewart, Bass & Guitarist, Additional artists on this album consist of Nigel Preston, Raymond Taylor Smith Drums.
The tracks are
1 She sells sanctuary ( my favourite song.)
2 Fire Woman ( very rocky number)
3 Lil Devil ( another rocky number)
4 Spiritwalker ( excellent song, older than the above numbers, rather gothic.
5 The Witch ( sound...

Advantages: She Sells Sanctuary - it rocks Disadvantages: Go West - it sucks
...This CD brings back a lot of memories to me; namely black eyeliner, black clothes, deathly white complexion and dancing like a maniac. Hang on, I’m still like that!
They were called ‘Southern Death Cult’ in 81, then Billy Duffy joined in ‘83 and they changed their name to ‘Death Cult’ and finally in 1984 to ‘The Cult’ (apparently because it made them sound like a Goth band).
Beggars Banquet must have felt there was a market for these ‘best of’ releases. The question is ‘why is there still a market for a band that seemed to change with each album to adjust to the latest tastes?’ The answer is ‘how the heck am I supposed to know!’
The Cult's music is an extraordinary mixture of the ordinary to the spiritual that sounds great. Oh, the joy...

...The Inspiral Carpets were one of the best baggy Madchester scene bands about. Right from the early stuff on the Life album up to Devil Hopping they were a great band. Tom's vocals and Clint Boon's keyboard/organ playing were top stuff.
Tracks like How it should be and Dragging Me Down later in their career gave them chart success and early on This si how it feels gained cult indie status.
But for me my favourite tracks have to be Fire and Mermaid. And the best all round album, The Beast Inside.
A great band, way ahead of their time....
