He decides that he wants a bigger slice of the pie and sets up a band with guitarist John Maus and drummer Gary Leeds. They move base to England, Scott Engel becomes Scott Walker and the legend begins. How do you define the importance and beauty of the music created by Scott Walker and the Walker Brothers in a few paragraphs? It's almost impossible. To begin with it was Scott Walker and The Walker Brothers. Between 1965 and 1967 they were responsible for some of the classic moments in pop. Think 'Make It Easy On Yourself' with it's sweeping orchestration and Scott's velvety smooth, impossibly beautiful vocals. It's a stunning song that is instantly recognizable. ...Stop whatever you are doing and go buy this now. Listen to the voice that inspires Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon to create his fabulous sound and then fall under the same spell. A voice like you've never heard from a man that is rarely seen. Scott Walker came to my notice during the heady music years of the 60's. He performed alongside 2 other magically coiffeured guys, who went by the name of the Walker Brothers. (They are best remembered for the fantastic "My Ship Is Coming In", and "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore"). After the split, Scott decided to go it alone and this 3rd album relies heavily on Jacques Brel songs. Each and every single track is joy. ...Having being a long time Walker Brothers fan I started listening to Scott Walker's solo work and found it, on the whole, to be challenging but entertaining. However Tilt is one step too far into the world of pathetic self indulgence. The whole album sounds like a suicidal manic depressive reading out his shopping list. If record companies want his fans to buy his records they should try a bit of tactfull discussions along the lines of "Oi, Scott. This is complete rubbish, why don't you go back into the recording studio and sing something?" Having tried to get into the entire concept by listening to it a few times I have now given up on this album. It is a waste of money and should have a label on the front warning his fans of such a fact.... Read review
