...If you aren't sure whether to buy this, fret no more - I think it's the best since Jagged Little Pill. Under Rug Swept was promising and good, but has now been surpassed. Unfortunately, Alanis has falled into the music trap of being loved for her angry songs and lyrics, then if there is any deviation from that (Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie), falls from grace... then tries to come back with semi-anger & maturity, and some don't like the grown-up version. You can't please everyone, but this album has such a selection of songs and great lyrics I think you'd be hard pushed to not like it. Younger, much angrier musical tastes can still be met by other artists (Avril, Evanescence etc), but Alanis has moved on from the really, really bitter stuff of Jagged Little Pill to a truer sound. ...It has always amazed me how this woman keeps going and in such a good style, taking into account her not - so - exceptional voice. Good producers, excellent business mind, getting top new artists involved is the answer, I guess... I was a bit uncertain about the album at first, not knowing what to make of it. "Give it to me" was well of a mock and the whole thing didn't seem to have any harmony at all. Only after few listenings did I come to appreciate the combination of sounds and lyrics, too. The album is varied with gave the initial impression of chaos. Yet each track is clearly defined and perfectly constructed "wholeness", a Master Piece. Obviously (?) excellent entertainer and fabulous dance tunes. The front cover is a disappointment - one would think the lady can age in style, too. The image does not diminish the quality of music...
