Advantages: Young/Prime Pavarotti in core repertoire in brilliant stereo sound Disadvantages: Very little
a performance from the complete solti set - a very good buy in itself. If you enjoy that little cameo you may like JoseCarreras' performance with Evelyn Lear's Rosenkavalier on Philips which is one of that tenorsbestfrom his short-lived prime.

Advantages: All the hero's in one Disadvantages: Mixed sound recordings Sound louder and quieter in places
To hear his voice you would not think he would be a very diverse tenor but listening to this you would have to think twice.
Track 19: Paloma querida sung by Francisco Araiza
Araiza holds a business degree and he certainly gets down to it (business that is) when it comes to this, lesser known, but fantastic aria. Well done the Mexican!!!
Track 20: Maria sung by JoséCarreras
This is the only poor selection of track on the CD although it is sung well it does stick out like a sore thumb.
Track 21: E lucevan le stelle sung by PlácidoDomingoDomingo returns to sing this spiritual aria from Tosca for us. He does a grand job.
Track 22: In fernem Land sung by Kurt Moll and Siegfried Jerusalem
Beautifully sung and again is another example of a well-picked duet showing us that this compilation hasn't just been thrown ...
Advantages: Young/Prime Pavarotti in core repertoire in brilliant stereo sound Disadvantages: Very little
This is probably the best introduction you could have to Pavarotti. It has everything, early work (1960s) and more mature work (1970s/1980s) it also has earlier composers such as Donizetti and Rossini as well as later greats such as Bizet (not a big figure in Pavarotti's career but beautifully sung) and Puccini with Nessun Dorma taking pride of place. The inclusion of Italian songs is good fun and very well sung, listen to the high notes in the mattinata, but there are not any of pavarotti's collaborations with celebrities like Sinatra etc which for me is a major plus but to others may be a bit of a let down depending how much you enjoy his 'pop' music output. His major early success are here including his breakthrough role from la fille du regiment and Rodolfo in La Boheme the role he debuted in in very early 1960s. The roles are ...
