...Any 'Glam Rock' fan is sure to have at least one T.Rex single or album in their record collection. Listening to Marc Bolan and T.Rex 'The Essential Collection' certainly takes me back to the 'good ole days' of the 1970's, when pop groups like T.Rex, The Sweet and The Glitter Band were all going strong. This album features 24 of T.Rex's greatest hits, including some of their most popular singles like 'Telegram Sam', 'Jeepster', '20th Century Boy', 'Ride a White Swan', 'Hot Love' and my favourite, 'Get it On'. It also has some of their earlier and lesser known songs on it like 'King of the Rumbling Spires' and 'By the Light of the Magical Moon'. Makes me feel like getting out my flares and platforms.... Advantages: Better sound
Disadvantages: incomplete collection

...The first thing too say about this album is that the sound quality is so much better than the sound that is on the other Bauhaus C.D. that I have has, the other C.D. I have is “In the Flat Field”. Which was basically a B.B.C. session released by the record company. This is first problem I have with this collection of tracks by the “Art” School gloom masters, it’s in the wrong chorological order. This assemblage of tracks should start with the awesome “Bela Lugosi’s dead” the bands first single, only ever released on 12” single as it’s 9minutes and 30 seconds long, “The bats have flown the bell tower the victims have been bled” great line. The next track should be “Double Dare” then the title song of their debut album, this I can forgive, as the sound... Read review

Advantages: Superb!
Disadvantages: Can't think of any!

...I will be as brief as possible: Put it this way, this is the album that Madonna dreams of making but never could. This is superb pop music and Alison Goldfrapp sounds even better live than she does on the record. She is underrated in my opinion. As a side issue, if you get the opportunity to see Goldfrapp then do. You will not be disappointed. Talent in action! If you are usually left feeling disappointed with albums full of fillers, bar a few hit singles, then buy this instead. It plays with almost faultless quality throughout the album - all tracks are electro-pop at its finest. There are diverse influences of T-Rex on Ooh La La and even hints of Bjork on Let It Take You. If you like Madonna and Kylie at their sophisticated best then this will appeal. If you like 80's synth-pop like Depeche Mode then you too would probably enjoy... Read review
