...warning set to the tune from a Spaghetti Junction western,and probably defines the spirit of the record more than any other song ,a range of musical styles move the album along from Mexican bar room to the social club disco on "I cant stand it " around the world in a couple of plays ,the sheer variety of form continues on "Holidat Fortnight" a vibrant conga ,evoking the shambles of a Spanish package holiday ,imagine sombrero,s and sunburnt mother in laws and your half way there. The albums most ambitious and stylistically radical track "International Jet Set" almost closes "More Specials",a predominantly instrumental track which once again harks back to the uncomfortable and the nightmarish ,themes which haunt the entire record in one guise or another ,themetically it takes the package holiday a step too far into the realms... Advantages: Original, psychedelic, distinctive Moodys sound, an extra hour of music
Disadvantages: The album without the extras is rather short

...It may seem strange to be reviewing an album that first saw the light of day nearly 40 years ago. However the Moody Blues have maintained their popularity and their loyal fan base through three generations and (down to three of the original members now) are about to embark on another UK tour. In 2003 Universal Music embarked on a project to re-master the first five of the Moody Blues albums from the original tapes using modern production techniques. They also decided to issue additional tracks - alternative takes and versions - which were not included on the final album. This is the 2006 deluxe SACD edition. DISC ONE: THE ALBUM This album was the second produced by the Moody Blues for the Decca Record label but strictly speaking it is the group's first solo album. Advantages: Pure joy for Charlie and Lola fans, both children and parents alike
Disadvantages: The track 'Bat Cat' does not go on long enough.

...If you are fed up of nursery rhymes, pop or childrens stories on car journeys and have a Charlie and Lola fan this CD is fantastic for them and you. It has saved us from hell on many a car trip, for the pure sillyness and fun of the songs and lyrics. The CD combines out takes from the TV series of Charlie and Lola talking, with music from the show, and tracks I haven't heard before. Highlights include, 'The bestest in The Barn' which has the lyrics on the inner sleeve (and apparently you can watch the video by loading the CD in your computer, but I haven't tried this yet), 'Germs' which has the best bug noises you will ever hear (I challenge you not to laugh), and 'Bat Cat' which is pure genius. I can't wait for an excuse to put this on in the car, it has us all in a good mood and singing along, in no time. The best value childrens CD... Read review
