...Beverley Knight is not at all new on the music scene. In fact she’s been around for yonks. But it’s only with this year’s ‘Who I Am’ that she’s finally getting the popular attention and airplay she deserves. You’ve probably heard the single ‘Shoulda Woulda Coulda’ on the radio recently. Beverley Knight is perhaps best described as a soul/r ‘n’ b singer, but that doesn’t really do justice to her versatility. Anyone who saw her on Jools Holland’s Hootenanny last new year’s eve and heard her singing George Harrison’s ‘My Sweet Lord’ will know that she turn her hand (voice?) to almost anything. ‘Who I Am’ is Beverley’s third album and it’s easily her best yet, showing her maturity, versatility, wonderful voice... ...) this if released could be her anthem track. 'Keep This Fire Burning' follows in full R&B Diva force. This song has a brandy-esque feel about it with full on R&B beats and would be a good America breakthrough track. Its possibly the most commercial track on the album, and has a real dancey quality. Is a good upbeat break between ballads. 'No One Ever Loves In Vain' is a touchy sod your heart out affair. Singing of the loss of her best friend who passed away. You cannot help be touched by this simple melodic number that will also get stuck in your head. Its simplicity and honesty is its charm. I like it when you can feel what an artist feels. Title track 'Affirmation' follows. This is a dark moody track. It makes a good change and shows Beverleys ability to change style and be a very versatile artist.
