Advantages: Well worth the money, can watch over and over again Disadvantages: A little bit short on running time
...choose to film it in Black & White??
Make it look old? Give it some character? Who knows, but with this show, it really works!!!
Roy Orbison (with friends) Black & White Night Music DVD
***The Show***
This show was put together to pay tribute to Roy Orbison, for his life time achievement of over 30 years in the entertainment business. The Show was recorded live, a one time special event, filmed in Black & White at Los Angeles’s Coconut Grove in 1987.
The show itself included Roy Orbison and a star studded line-up of friends. The “friends” were all individual recording artists themselves and all had volunteered to be part of the show in tribute to this great artist. The most unusual thing is that all the stars involved played as one huge band, instead of having individual spots…
The most enjoyable thing about this...

Advantages: five stars for the Scott Walker songs alone Disadvantages: the rest of the album is forgettable, but Scott's songs are amazing
...Scott tracks in the future. It was, in every sense, a brand new beginning.
"Shut Out" is probably the most commercial track here, a frantic beat and squalling guitars compete with Scott's declamatory vocal style, heavily compressed and shorn of it's usual romantic sheen. The lyrics, as with most of the songs he would write from this point on, are a confused jumble of disturbing images.
"Nite Flights" - the title song is excellent. A powerful drum beat underpins the song as the lyrics enter dark territory - "the dark dug up by dogs, the stitches torn and broke, the raw meat fist you choke..." very strange images are put into the head of the listener. David Bowie loved this album, or rather the Scott songs, and recorded a stunning cover of "Nite Flights" on his 1993 album Black Tie White Noise. Bowie's cover is one of his best ever...

Advantages: Relaxing and always makes me feel better Disadvantages: Goes down hill a bit towards the end
...and Mary belted out a fair few of Gaye's classic ballads and dance tracks. I was hooked, but it wasn't until a few months ago that I finally bought the Best of Marvin Gaye CD - there I was in HMV, taking advantage of the 2 for £20 offer, Marvin Gaye's Greatest Hits in one hand and Leftfield's Rhythm and Stealth in the other - what an odd chap the sales assistant must have thought, but when I got the CD home - I realised what a great move I'd made in buying it.
In my opinion, the lurv masters don't come much finer than Marvin Gaye - although Barry White was indeed a great talent, he pales into insignificance alongside Marvin Gaye in my opinion. Marvin had an illustrious group and solo career spanning over 20 years: in his time he'd seen close friends die, numerous marriages crumble and a cocaine habit that was eventually to lead to the ruin...
