Advantages: Massive Tunes, Cheap, 38 tracks Disadvantages: Lots of MCing
...Dubstep Allstars Vol.5 is the fifth album in the series of mixes showcasing the talents of the UK's most rapidly evolving and contagious genre. For those unfamiliar with Dubstep, it is a genre that has emerged in the past decade or so, but has begun to pick up speed in the last two or three years. It is a carefully crafted mix of heavy sub-basses, reggae, jazz, and other electronic subgenres such as Drum 'n' Bass and Techno. Perhaps its most distinctive characteristic is the famous 'wobble' bass line (a brilliant 'wup wup' noise that you have to hear to believe) accompanied with atmospheric and resounding syncopated drums. Having emerged from Croydon, Norwood and Brixton, Dubstep looks set to take over dance floors worldwide.
This Allstars instalment is mixed by one of the leading DJs in the scene; N-Type. Although the tracklisting...

Advantages: Memorable lyrics telling great stories; excellent guitars Disadvantages: None!
...and there you are/ The owner of a two thousand thousand-Dollar-car'.
If it seems I've just raved about the lyrics don't be misled, the Bottle Rockets are an all round band, they write catchy tunes with great lyrics but they are also all very good musicians. Henneman spent years as guitar roadie and chief cook and bottle washer for the great Uncle Tupelo before he decided to do his own thing and while his influences from that period are quite obvious he is still his own man and can hold his own with the best of them. I won't go into the line up as it has changed markedly since this album was produced though its worth mentioning that The Brooklyn Side was produced by Eric Ambel who will be known to fans of the genre.
The sound is guitar driven but there are mandolins and fiddles and banjos right there when needed to allude to country genres...

Advantages: u can hear the words Disadvantages: dunno
...i thought id have 2 write an opinion on this cause smash mouth r so fun. This song is featured on their second album, astro lounge.
The song allstar has a fun feel to it, typical of smash mouth songs, but is even more teeny bopper. The song was the themesong to the film 'mystery men'.i saw the film on an aeroplane and wouldn't have paid 2 c it otherwise, but i do think that the song was 100% appropriate 4 the film. Both are lighthearted, funny and enjoyable.
if u listen to the lyrics, which r quite easily comprehendable (which is a rare thing at the moment)u will notice that they make sense, which is not particularly typical of smash mouth. But, their songs r not written to b taken seriously, but laughed at, so have a liste, have a laugh, and enjoy!...
