Album Notes: Recorded in Nigeria between 1967 & 1974. This album is an excellent collection of King Sunny Ade's music in its heyday, from the late 1960s to the mid-'70s. Ade, who brought his own guitar style to juju, the music of Yoruba, eventually attracted international attention by incorporating Caribbean elements into his sound, along with Islamic and Christian religious traditions. The wonderful, laid-back joy in this album pours out of its multi-tiered instrumentation, including the talking drums, congas, sticks, and Ade's spritely lap-steel intricacy. The album features many favorites, including the five-song medley "Sunny Ti De" and the big hit "Synchro System" (all glorious 18-minutes of the extended version), with its smooth-as-honey vocals mingling with bubbling beats and bass lines. Though it represents only one era of Ade's long career in music, this BEST OF beautifully demonstrates why he is referred to as the undisputed king of juju music.
Album Reviews: Rolling Stone (3/20/03, p.68) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...The loping, dublike style he pioneered on 'Synchro System' never sounded fresher or more prophetic..." Spin (4/03, p.105) - "...Ideal for rare-groove DJs short on grooves..." Entertainment Weekly (3/21/03, p.113) - "...Fuses traditional African music and Western pop without stifling the former's expansive flow..." - Rating: A- Mojo (4/03, p.124) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Choice selection of cuts from the ju ju pioneer..." The Wire (6/03, p.78) - "...No one attending the African Beats show of the period had any difficulty accepting the notion that this music could support an all night party. It retains that potency in the present day..."
Advantages: High music storage capacity, easy to use Disadvantages: Scratches easily
...I can't believe I've gone without an ipod for all this time, because now I own one, I don't know how I ever lived without it. The classic is clearly the best of the ipod products. All the extras you get on some of the others just cut down it's music capacity and battery life. You can even up your capacity with the 160 GB but 80 seems to hold more than enough. The classic is really easy to use, simple to charge and upload all your new music. The only issue I have with ipods is the fact that they get scratched so easily and you really need to buy some kind of cover to keep it in good shape, which ultimately bulks it out a little more and ruins the look of your classic black sexy gadget. I wish Ipod could just design one that doesn't do this and them it would be perfect....

...**UPDATE** After having this iPod for 18 months now, I thought I'd update my review as parts of it are no longer true. This review was updated 22.07.09 :-)
** UPDATE** I'll have owned my iPod Classic for two years when December comes, so at the end of this review I'll give you an update on how it's running almost 24 months after it was first purchased.
I was hesitant about buying an iPod as my first, an iPod mini a few years ago, broke and never mended itself as
soon as I bought it. It was sent back and I've been using other (decent) players since. But iPods are so popular
I decided to give them another shot and, truthfully, am very pleased that I did.
After using a perfectly good Samsung YP-Z5A 4GB Mp3 player, I was bought the iPod Classic 80GB (in black) for
a Christmas present. Firstly, I would order it off the official...

...Dorling Kindersley, a company that puts a strong emphasis on producing comprehensive and well designed reference books. Classical music station Classic FM were also involved in putting this book together. Like every Eyewitness guide that I've looked at, it's really packed with information. The cover is glossy and colourful, while inside there are 500 pages of facts, analysis and biographies of composers from over 1000 years of music. There are plentiful illustrations throughout, making it a very attractive book to use.
The book is edited by John Burrows, OBE, who organises and promotes concerts. He has worked with many big names in the classical world. In his Foreword to the book he says he wanted the guide to "inform, excite, inspire and be very accessible." I would say he has certainly achieved that aim.
There is a short...
