collection, which hit the shops in 2001. Perhaps an explanation for this delay is the band's sometimes contradictory concern to promote their music rather than their image. This is further demonstrated by the simple, formulaic videos on the collection which, apart from "Give Me a Reason", all feature the four hammering their respective instruments. This drives home another important distinction between them and other contemporary pop acts, which Caroline and co have always been keen to promote: they know how to play their instruments, and passionately. The serious and grey unplugged videos for "Radio" and "Everybody Hurts" also further highlight these concerns of credibility. "Love to Love You", featuring footage of the band on an early tour, does look decidedly cheap and nasty but not all the videos are equally drab: produced at the pinnacle of their global success, "Breathless" and the tongue-in-cheek promo to "Would You Be Happier" are glossy, big-budget affairs, which generate a much-needed feel-good factor that is notably absent from a lot of their other videos. On the DVD:The Best of the Corrshas digital stereo versions of 18 of their greatest hits, plus six of these also in surround sound. For such an anthology the bonus features are especially poor, with a limited picture gallery and a DVD discography. The accompanying eight-page booklet does at least provide a useful insight into the making of the videos. It's also pleasing to hear the early and graceful instrumental track "Erin Shore" being used as the backing track for the menus. --John Galilee

The other songs some are from unplugged which was done on MTV largely to prove that they were live performers as ever there were reports that they ...
