The Best of the Doors

I am a huge fan of The Doors and their music is timeless, so I was really pleased when my son bought my partner the C.D The Best of the Doors.
I like all the tracks on it and usually blast it out whilst doing the housework. He should have bought it me but we share everything.

The members of the band are. Ray Manzarek, John Densmore, Robby Krieger and the legendary Jim Morrison.
All of the members of the band attended UCLA and as the story goes Jim Morrison bumped into Ray Manzarek whilst walking along Venice Beach.
Jim sat and recited one of his poems/songs and Ray said Lets form a Rock and Roll Band.
They then formed The Doors.

Manzarek on organ and keyboard
Densmore on drums
Krieger on guitar
Morrison vocals

The tracks on the C.D are.
1. Riders on the Storm
I’m sure most of us has heard this track, it’s one of the bands most famous, the lyric’s are brilliant and it has been included in the sound track of the film, The Doors.
It was on the Best of the Doors (Quadraphonic) Third compilation Release in Aug 1973 and on The Doors Greastest Hits Released Jan 1980.
Into this world we’re thrown, like a dog without a bone. (classic words)

2. Light my Fire
Everyone must have heard this one too, what with Will Young taking it and revamping it into a love song, which I thought took all the power and meaning out of it, but such is progress.
I can’t help singing along to this track, it’s one of my favorites.
Released on their first album The Doors in Jan 1967.

3.Love me Two Times
This is a catchy tune which you will find gets into your head and you’ll be humming it all day.

4.Roadhouse Blues
This track was released on the Morrison Hotel album in Feb 1970.

5.Strange Days
This slow ballard was released on the Weird Scenes inside the Gold Mines albulm in 1972.

6.Break on Through
If I could choose any song to be played at my funeral service it would be this one. I love the words and the sound of it. To me it’s like Jim is trying to take us into another dimention and show us another reality.

7.Five to one
A grim reality of the statistic’s of the vietnam war, one in five would not get out alive.
Jim’s ability to make the youth of his day take notice of what was happening and to fight for peace in awful times. A revolutionary man at his best.

8.Moonlight Drive
Another catchy song, which gets into your head. Also released on the second album Strange Days

9.Alabama Song
I’m not too keen on this song, but love the sound of Jim’s voice so do listen to it whilst the C.D is on.

10. Love her Madly
A great song to blast out around the house, it’s lively and I know all the words so you’ll find me singing along too. Released on the L.A Woman album in April 1971. Don't you love her as she's walkin out the door, like she did one thousand times before.

11. People are Strange
The guitar on this track is brilliant, a great intro and then Jim sings in only the way he could.
This is also on the Stange Days album.

12.Touch Me
Jim’s voice shouts out the words in this song and takes your whole mind over, what more can I say?

13. Back Door Man
Altough I love The Doors this is not one of my favorite’s either, but I still will listen to it now and again.

14.The Unknown Soldier
This is another powerfull and meaningfull song , the energy and feeling Jim puts into singing this one can be felt over generations of time...Classic.

15. L.A.Woman
I also have this one as one of my favorite’s it’s a very catchy tune and the lyric’s are easy to remember, the guitar on here is brilliant and this was also on the Weird Scenes inside the Gold Mines album.

16. Hello I love You
Yet another of my favorite’s, this track cheers you up and has you singing along.

17. The End
I love this song, it’s moving and has lots of powerful words, a song/poem which gets under your skin, into your head and is another timeless classic.

I would recommend this C.D to you, my only dissapointment is that they never included Waiting for the Sun, but we can’t have everything.
You can buy this C.D for 12.99 at Woolworths, Virgin or other music shops.

The Door is Open.
