Advantages: Another brilliant British prog rock album Disadvantages: none whatsoever
...the level of the earlier three.
I got this at HMV for the ridiculously small amount of £3.99, it came out in 1996 as the 25th anniversary rerelease. As with the earlier anniversary editions of their back catalogue, it has a 28 page booklet detailing the background to the album, how the songs were put together, and clippings from the press at the time. Roger Glover also reminisces about the making of the album, from which it appears that the band did not seem to think this album as their best, being rather rushed!! . It's worth the entrance fee on its own, even without listening to the music, but hey you don't buy Fireball just to read how it was made do ya. So you get the original 7 tracks of the vinyl, plus nine extra cuts.
THE ORIGINAL ALBUM
The title bursts out of the speakers; it's all urgency, seemingly everyone playing...

Advantages: Some of rocks finest songs Disadvantages: Some bad tracks used as fillers
...There are various incarnations of Deep Purples's greatest hits but this has to be the best. It comes in a very stylish purplse slip case complete with a glossy book with text written by Hugh Gilmore. This outlines how the band formed, their most important releases and what musicians have been in their ranks throughout the 31 years of their existance.
All the classics are on here from 1969's Hush which was recently covered by Kula Shaker up to 1998's Any Fule Kno That. Some songs aren't worth theirp place on the album but find themselves there because they are title tracks from the bands various albums. An example of this is Fireball. Others such as Speed King and Never before simply aren't good songs but there are some exceptional numbers on here like Stormbringer and Perfect Strangers. Of course Deep Purple have produced some...

Advantages: Contains well loved, classic, Purple tracks Disadvantages: There are a couple of songs not to my personal taste
...Deep Purple were one of the first heavy metal bands and this greatest hits album shows some of their evolution from a softer more ballad-like sound to some seriously rocking heavy tracks. No one who enjoys hard rock could be without some Deep Purple. Singers David Coverdale (who went on to form White Snake) and Ian Gillan (whose band was called Gillan) went on to have enormously successful careers after leaving Purple, yet they will always be best respected for their work while members of this influential band. Probably the most easily recognised guitare riff in rock history is that of Smoke On the Water, an all-time favourite track for many fans of the genre. This album is definately one for your collection if you are new to Deep Purple. It is a real piece of rock history. The tracks, other than Smoke On the Water are : Black...
